Controllership’s mission is to serve as a strategic business partner by providing timely, insightful decision support on strategic and operational matters related to accounting, internal controls, audit/SOX compliance, financial reporting, and analysis. By leveraging financial systems and data, the team enhances visibility, improves efficiency, shortens decision cycles, and reinforces financial integrity and accountability.
This role serves as the accounting leader for GM International, with responsibility for controllership oversight, management reporting, internal controls, audit coordination, accounting policy application, and advisory support for key business initiatives. The successful candidate will bring strong technical accounting judgment, leadership capability, and the ability to partner effectively across Global teams. As it supports global markets in various time zones, there will be meetings and requests in early morning and late evenings.
The ideal candidate is a strong accounting leader with deep expertise in consolidation, analysis and SEC reporting. This individual will demonstrate sound judgment, executive-ready communication skills (including clear, concise presentations to senior leadership), and a strong commitment to team development and cross-functional partnership across global markets.
What You'll Do

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing global team of accounting professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Own the consolidation and financial reporting activities for GM International entities, including South America, Korea, China, and other GMI markets, ensuring accurate, timely, and transparent financial results.

Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close and reporting processes, including trial balance submissions, intercompany eliminations, consolidation entries, account reconciliations, analytical reviews, and validation of country results.

Lead the preparation and review of internal and external financial reporting deliverables, including management reporting, regulatory filings, and SEC reporting support (10-Q and 10-K), providing clear analysis and insights on balance sheet, income statement, cash flow, EBIT, key risks, and business performance.

Ensure compliance with accounting standards, SOX requirements, APM guidelines, and internal control frameworks by driving strong governance, effective controls, risk identification, and timely remediation of issues.

Partner with internal and external auditors, regional finance teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to support audits, regulatory compliance, and sound business decision-making.

Drive continuous improvement across financial reporting and controllership processes by enhancing controls, improving close efficiency, strengthening reporting quality, and resolving complex accounting or compliance matters.

Lead the implementation of new accounting standards, financial systems, reporting processes, and strategic Controllership initiatives across GM International.

Champion transformation and modernization efforts through automation, advanced analytics, digital tools, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency, accuracy, and scalability.

Delivery of technology-driven efficiencies leveraging multiple tools & technologies, including AI.

Present financial results, key issues, risks, and strategic insights to senior leadership and business partners, influencing decisions and advancing organizational objectives.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.

CPA designation required.

6+ years of progressive accounting and/or finance experience.

Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, GM Accounting Policy, internal controls, SOX compliance, and financial reporting requirements.

Experience leading month-end close, consolidation, financial statement review, account reconciliation, and audit coordination processes.

Ability to apply accounting guidance to complex, non-routine transactions and support sound business decisions.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and judgment skills, with the ability to identify risks and drive timely resolution.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated executive presence and the ability to communicate complex topics clearly to senior leadership.

Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and collaborate effectively across global and cross-functional teams.

Given GM International’s global footprint, this role requires occasional early-morning and late-evening availability to support partners across multiple time zones.

Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the - Global HQ Warren MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
