The Role
The Data Engineering organization at General Motors is driving innovation by harnessing data to shape the future of mobility. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Co-Op Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will contribute to the development of software pipelines that configure the behavior of vehicle data recording systems, including both the Control and Data planes. This position requires a solid foundation in software development principles and strong collaboration skills to work effectively across diverse engineering teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, a passion for data-driven systems, and experience in managing and scaling data flows.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

Develop and maintain configuration files that define the operational state of the vehicle’s Control and Data planes.

Design, implement, and maintain software pipelines to verify the integrity of vehicle data and control plane parameters.

Build software tools to ingest, cross-check, manage changes, and release data recording configuration files.

Create workflows for automated verification of configuration parameters.
-
Maintain detailed records of configuration files, including parameter definitions, boundaries, optimal values, and system-level impacts.

Support CI/CD and DevOps initiatives for automated integration, testing, and release of vehicle data recording software parameters.

Analyze vehicle data logs to identify discrepancies and optimize system performance.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of vehicle data recording and analytics software.
Required Qualifications:
-
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Data Science, Data Engineering or equivalent

Eligible to work full time hours, 40 hours a week for a term of 8 or 12 months (consecutive semesters) starting January 2027
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Strong understanding of software development principles and best practices.
-
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C/C++.

Experience with GitHub, GitHub Actions, and workflow automation.

Solid grasp of logging and data processing concepts.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues.

Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a team-oriented mindset.

Experience with calibration/configuration tools and processes.
-
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and their logging services.

Contributions to data-intensive open-source projects.

Expertise in CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.

Knowledge of embedded software development and optimization.

The monthly salary range for this role is $4,264.00 to $4784.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
