Descrição

Work Classification:

Hybrid: The successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum, or as dictated by the business.

The Role:

General Motors is seeking a technically strong and highly motivated Technical Specialist to lead the development and integration of embedded software for On-Board Charging Module (OBCM) systems. This role will provide overall technical direction for OBCM software and controls, from concept and requirements through implementation, validation, and production release.

The ideal candidate combines strong embedded C/C++ software experience with deep knowledge of automotive power electronics, especially AC/DC and DC/DC conversion. The role requires close collaboration with Software Architects, Solution System Lead Engineers, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIO) teams, hardware engineers, systems and safety teams, validation, calibration, and external technology partners.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead the technical development of OBCM embedded software and control integration across the product lifecycle.

  • Define and evolve software, controls, interfaces, verification methods, and production acceptance criteria for OBCM functions.

  • Develop and guide control strategies for AC/DC power-factor correction, DC/DC conversion, voltage and current regulation, power-flow management, and bidirectional operation.

  • Provide technical direction for control-loop design, state machines, PWM and modulation, sampling, protection, diagnostics, fault handling, and real-time behavior.

  • Review software architecture, C/C++ implementation, algorithms, and technical deliverables to ensure safe, maintainable, testable, and production-ready solutions.

  • Collaborate with Software Architects, SSLEs, HWIO, hardware, systems, safety, validation, calibration, and supplier teams to resolve integration issues across software, controls, power electronics, and vehicle interfaces.

  • Integrate OBCM software with battery-management, high-voltage, charging, thermal-management, and supervisory-control systems.

  • Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of complex issues identified in simulation, software integration, hardware testing, and vehicle testing.

  • Establish and lead verification and validation activities across SIL, HIL, bench, dyno, and vehicle environments, including automated testing and calibration support.

  • Maintain requirements traceability from system and software requirements through implementation and test evidence.

  • Ensure compliance with functional-safety, diagnostic, cybersecurity, regulatory, quality, and applicable coding-standard expectations.

  • Support technical planning, backlog refinement, estimation, risk management, and resolution of critical product issues.

  • Mentor engineers and provide technical guidance that improves software quality, development efficiency, and reuse across applications.

  • Evaluate emerging OBCM and power-conversion technologies and lead advanced engineering activities that produce production-ready solutions.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Controls, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 5+ years of experience in OBC, OBCM, automotive power conversion, embedded controls software, or closely related technology.

  • Demonstrated experience taking embedded software or controls from requirements through implementation, validation, and production release.

  • Strong hands-on experience with embedded C/C++ and real-time software development.

  • Working knowledge of AC/DC conversion, PFC, DC/DC conversion, voltage and current regulation, PWM, sampling, protection, and control-loop stability.

  • Ability to analyze software and controls behavior across the controller, subsystem, and vehicle levels.

  • Experience with software and system requirements, interface definition, verification methods, and requirements-to-test traceability.

  • Strong system-level troubleshooting skills across software, controls, hardware, power stages, and vehicle interfaces.

  • Excellent technical communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently, lead through influence, and make sound technical decisions in a complex, cross-functional environment.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Controls, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline.

  • 8+ years of experience in OBC, OBCM, automotive power conversion, embedded controls software, or closely related technology.

  • Direct experience launching a production automotive OBC or OBCM.

  • Experience with bidirectional charging, V2G/V2H, EV charging interfaces, or charging communication standards.

  • Experience with SiC-based high-voltage power electronics.

  • Knowledge of functional safety, diagnostics, fault management, high-voltage safety, and automotive cybersecurity.

  • Experience with SIL, HIL, automated validation, calibration, dyno, and vehicle-level testing.

  • Experience with control modeling, simulation, or rapid-control-prototyping tools.

  • Familiarity with automotive communication and configuration technologies such as CAN, LIN, Ethernet, and ARXML.

  • Experience with requirements and engineering tools such as DOORS/DNG, Git, Jira, and continuous-integration environments.

  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Controls, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
