Descrição
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role
The Product Owner / Tool Developer will lead the technical integration of third party application connections that will enable GM’s Simulation Process Data Management (SPDM) ecosystem. The role will develop and maintain connections between third-party CAE applications and Scale, GM’s SPDM platform, while also integrating internally developed engineering tools (such as iNSPIRE).
INSPIRE provides governed storage, metadata, traceability, permissions, APIs, and user workflows for engineering analysis data used in virtual development and launch. The platform supports simple scalar data, dynamic structured data, complex parent-child data such as motor maps, and Virtual Vehicle assemblies that connect curated records to program, model year, milestone, and tracking vehicle attributes.
This position will serve as the accountable business lead for the INSPIRE product lifecycle and the primary connection between engineering data providers and consumers, GEOS leadership, GM IT, vehicle programs, domain technical experts, and software vendors. The successful candidate will translate engineering needs into an actionable product roadmap by understanding the technical requirements of both Scale and INSPIRE stakeholders.
The role will also help establish future capabilities in Multi-Discipline Integration and Optimization (MDIO), enabling broader integration of cross-domain analysis, optimization, and engineering workflows.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
- Develop integrations between third-party CAE applications and Scale using Scale APIs and approved integration frameworks.
- Complete Scale API and platform training and apply that knowledge to develop reliable data connections, workflows, and user interfaces.
- Integrate internally developed analysis tools, including INSPIRE, into the Scale SPDM environment.
- Serve as the technical interface to Scale and other software vendors for architecture, development, troubleshooting, testing, and issue resolution.
- Own the INSPIRE product lifecycle, including product vision, requirements, backlog prioritization, release planning, documentation, and stakeholder communications.
- Partner with engineering data providers and consumers to understand business needs, process challenges, data dependencies, and future capability requirements.
- Translate engineering needs into product requirements, user stories, technical specifications, acceptance criteria, and roadmap priorities.
- Develop and maintain an actionable INSPIRE roadmap and assist with SPDM road mapping activities aligned with enterprise engineering and vehicle-program priorities.
- Coordinate with GEOS leadership, GM IT, vehicle programs, CAE application owners, and domain technical experts to manage priorities, risks, and dependencies.
- Define integration architecture, data flows, interface specifications, and exchange standards across Scale, INSPIRE, Teamcenter, and connected engineering applications.
- Lead proof-of-concept development, solution design, testing, deployment, and sustainment of new integrations.
- Establish standards for data quality, traceability, configuration management, security, and lifecycle governance.
- Monitor integration performance, user adoption, and operational health; identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
- Facilitate demonstrations, technical reviews, training, and change-management activities.
- Coordinate cross-functional investigations and drive timely resolution of technical issues.
- Promote the reuse of validated models, workflows, analysis results, and engineering data across vehicle programs.
- Partner with MDIO stakeholders to identify and enable future multidisciplinary analysis and optimization use cases.
- Help define scalable data and workflow patterns to support design-space exploration, optimization, and cross-domain engineering integration.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Experience with software integration, APIs, data pipelines, engineering applications, or technical product development.
- Experience with CAE, simulation, engineering data management, PLM, or related engineering systems.
- Demonstrated ability to translate engineering or business needs into technical requirements and executable solutions.
- Experience with product ownership, product-roadmap development, backlog prioritization, or application lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of software development, testing, deployment, troubleshooting, and sustainment practices.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineering organizations, IT teams, software vendors, and senior leadership.
- Strong communication, facilitation, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex work across multiple organizations without direct authority.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with Scale or a comparable SPDM, PLM, or engineering data-management platform.
- Experience integrating commercial CAE applications with enterprise systems.
- Experience with REST APIs, web services, authentication, JSON/XML, Python, JavaScript, or similar technologies.
- Experience with Teamcenter or other product-lifecycle-management environments.
- Experience supporting internally developed engineering or simulation applications.
- Knowledge of virtual validation, engineering digital threads, CAE workflows, or simulation-data management.
- Knowledge of Multi-Discipline Integration and Optimization (MDIO), multidisciplinary analysis, design-space exploration, or engineering optimization.
- Experience integrating analysis tools across multiple engineering disciplines.
- Understanding of design variables, constraints, performance metrics, optimization studies, and the management of associated engineering data.
- Experience with optimization or orchestration platforms such as Altair Inspire, HEEDS, modeFRONTIER, Ansys ModelCenter, or similar tools.
- Experience with Agile product development, user-story creation, backlog management, and release planning.
