Descrição

The role:

The Industrial Engineer is a data and systems driven individual who is an integral part of daily and future production operations. The Industrial Engineer will lead initiatives to eliminate the waste of time, money, materials, person-hours, machine time, energy, and other resources that do not generate value at Spring Hill GPS.

Work is of a technical nature and focused on making complex manufacturing processes more efficient, which involves understanding the systematic cross functionality of several departments within Spring Hill GPS and the General Motors enterprise. The Industrial Engineer will primarily lead and support complex automation, rebalance, layout design, and throughput improvement projects that involve collaboration between several in-plant departments, Headquarters engineering organizations, UAW Team Members, and third-party suppliers and contractors. Many of these projects include integrating automation systems as well as using data and statistical analysis to make business decisions and drive throughput improvements.

The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to your success at General Motors. Significant use of independent judgment is required, as well as the ability to think critically and creatively to solve problems and drive projects forward. Exceptional relationship building, communication, and organizational skills are needed to effectively plan and execute complex projects.

Additionally, a strong systems-based mindset, knowledge of automation systems (cobots, automation cells, or material automation), and proficiency in data mining, data analytics, and/or statistical modeling are required.

What you’ll do:

  • Manage, plan, and execute large-scale production projects that may involve the introduction of robotic cells, cobots, or material automation systems
  • Evaluate project feasibility, capability, and ROI by performing cycle time analysis and providing critical data to model simulations
  • Develop and drive Operational Excellence (OpEx) projects by evaluating current job functions for rebalance opportunities or opportunities to drive additional production efficiency, throughput, and/or reductions in labor cost
  • Utilize the Theory of Constraints, data analytics, and statistical analysis to root cause bottlenecks and drive continuous improvement to manufacturing processes
  • Design work operations that meet safety, ergonomic, quality, takt, and efficiency requirements
  • Revise assembly line flow and build sequence to support automation, rebalance, and throughput improvement (TIP) projects according to the Engine Assembly Document (EAD)
  • Support tool design, lift assist design, material packaging design, and material presentation design
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to determine space allocation needs and drive the layout creation, revision, buyoff, and sustainment process using AutoCAD
  • Collaborate with and provide robust manufacturing floor support to UAW Team Members, Group Leaders, and other relevant partners to drive improvements to safety, ergonomics, throughput, quality, and standardized work
  • Develop and maintain accurate time studies using motion analysis and standard time data (APS, STDS, GMOS)
  • Develop and maintain clear and accurate work instructions (cyclic, noncyclic, and non-standard tasks) to ensure build quality, team member safety, and operational effectiveness
  • Assist programming and making logic and systematic changes to a fleet of automated mobile equipment from multiple vendors

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related degree, or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems
  • Experience with data mining, data analytics, and/or statistical analysis
  • Experience leading large and difficult continuous improvement projects with a high level of autonomy
  • Knowledge of robotic systems (robotic cells, cobots, or material automation) or general programming
  • Knowledge of labor optimization tools and time study analysis
  • Ability to work off-shift, weekends, or overtime to support project implementations or as needed

What will give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 2+ years of engineering experience
  • Significant educational or work experience in operations research
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or computer-aided drafting and layout tools
  • Proficiency in human factors engineering, safety engineering, or ergonomic analysis
  • Experience with Throughput Improvement Processes (TIP)
  • Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification
