About the role:

The Design Lead Technical (DLT) provides technical leadership, daily work direction, and project coordination for Designers supporting the Instrument Panel and Floor Console organization. The DLT develops and drives math-based design solutions that meet system and subsystem requirements and enables successful vehicle integration throughout the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP).

This role applies advanced technical expertise, engineering judgment, and creative problem-solving to deliver virtual vehicle integration solutions that support quality, timing, cost, manufacturability, and performance objectives. The DLT works independently, leads technical deliverables, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to resolve complex design and integration issues.

  • Drive understanding and application of system and subsystem requirements within assigned Instrument Panel and Floor Console areas.
  • Ensure effective use of GM CAD and data management systems.
  • Lead the development, refinement, and release of Criteria and Typical Sections.
  • Establish ownership and consistency of Standard Modeling Methods and Virtual Integration Methods.
  • Promote adherence to design processes and best practices, including Standard Modeling Methods, Clearance Analysis, Vehicle Assembly Structure (VAS), and Global Data Security requirements.
  • Coach team members in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and vehicle integration principles.
  • Support completion and proper interpretation of NX analyses.
  • Share lessons learned and drive continuous improvement through best-practice updates, training, and mentoring.

Technical Execution and Program Leadership

  • Facilitate and participate in Design Reviews, Virtual Reviews, Program Development Team (PDT) meetings, and cross-functional workgroups.
  • Develop and validate virtual integration solutions for Instrument Panel and Floor Console components, subsystems, and vehicle-level applications.
  • Maintain accurate material, mass, and part specification data within math models.
  • Collaborate with CAE teams to evaluate studies and incorporate design improvements.
  • Provide technical expertise on GVDP requirements, math fidelity expectations, and Global Math Fidelity Template deliverables.
  • Support integration of Instrument Panel and Floor Console designs into the overall vehicle architecture.
  • Conduct design studies, evaluate alternatives, and provide technical recommendations for program decisions.
  • Drive the quality and timing of design releases in support of GVDP milestones and program deliverables.
  • Identify and resolve technical issues while balancing requirements, packaging, manufacturing constraints, cost, craftsmanship, and vehicle performance.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in NX CAD modeling and virtual vehicle integration.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle systems, packaging, manufacturing processes, and design release requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and deliver results in a fast-paced vehicle development environment.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, technical leadership, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting vehicle development through multiple GVDP cycles.
