Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Fort Wayne Assembly (or possibly GMPT Bedford, GM Marion Stamping. Or GMCH Kokomo) depending upon circumstances) on a full-time basis.
The Role: The GM environmental team is geared towards developing creative solutions to complex environmental challenges. As an Environmental Engineer at General Motors, you will have the opportunity to champion the air, waste and water compliance programs and be responsible for developing programs to reduce environmental risk. You will work cross functionally with diverse groups to build and implement best-in-class, sustainable solutions to improve environmental compliance and sustainability across the site. As an Environmental Supervisor, you will be working in an exciting manufacturing environment and be a part of a team fulfilling GM’s Vision of Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions, and Zero Congestion.
The GM Environmental Supervisor position focuses on environmental oversight at their local plant, plant partnership initiatives and process control improvements. Additionally, the Environmental Supervisor, as a People Leader, will lead a team of professionals that support additional facilities across the region.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Responsible for developing/maintaining/supporting robust and consistent environmental stewardship program strategies in support of GM’s mission to deliver sustainable solutions that improve the communities in which we live and work.
- Engage with local regulatory agencies.
- Develop creative solutions to complex environmental challenges.
- Utilize technology and information to develop and maintain environmental management systems.
- Monitor environmental parameters and progress to provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Support and improve system designs that preserve the environment, integrate the latest technologies, and provide long-term environmental solutions.
- Grow to understand the plant manufacturing systems including production processes, wastewater discharges, storm water management, air emissions impacts, sewer systems, chemical usage, and waste management/recycling programs, to ensure effective decision-making and regulatory compliance.
- Interface with business partners and regulatory agencies to prepare required regulatory documentation and reports, schedule and perform compliance testing.
- Cultivate and establish trustful relationships with key stakeholders, influencers, and industry partners to optimize implementation of our Resource & Chemical Management programs.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) :
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Environmental Engineering, or a related field science.
- 5+ years’ experience in Air Permitting, Storm Water Permitting, Hazardous Waste Generator Requirements and/or related media.
- Experience in environmental engineering or related science, preferably at a manufacturing operation.
- Demonstrated ability to execute projects.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and collaboration skills.
- Must be willing to travel between facilities
- To be a recognized site leader with the ability to develop people, including at least one successor, through formal and on the job training, coaching, and mentoring.
- As a People Leader, you will also be responsible for:
- Coaching and developing others.
- Providing performance feedback for a team of Environmental professionals.
- Traveling to other GM Indiana Manufacturing sites providing environmental support to site staff and interacting with that site leadership at each location.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Basic knowledge of the automotive manufacturing processes is preferred
