WHY: The purpose of this role is to develop and maintain software applications for GM Manufacturing sites, ensuring that vehicles are built and verified correctly across all assembly plants globally. This role involves close collaboration with IT professionals, product engineering teams, electrical hardware engineers, and plant staff to develop innovative solutions that verify and validate electrical systems according to global standards. By working together, these teams enhance all electrical testing processes, empowering operators to efficiently build vehicles, quickly resolve build issues, and consistently achieve first-time electrical quality goals.


WHAT: As a Lead MSAD, you will develop, validate, and maintain application software for GM Manufacturing tools and processes.
 

HOW: Supporting the plants to make it happen for our customers.
 

The successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center on a full-time basis. This role requires up to 10% domestic and international travel.
 

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Design, develop and validate applications for all stages of electrical testing from fluid fill stations to full vehicle End-of-Line Testing

  • Code, maintain, and debug applications using various programming languages.

  • Lead and coach junior developers through technical hurdles, promoting growth

  • Be flexible, quickly supporting multiple different large scale projects on the fly.

  • Debug and root cause issues with vehicle electronic control units affecting testing applications using CAN (ISO15765), UDS (ISO14229), and DoIP (ISO13400) serial data protocols.

  • Perform application validation on System Benches, development hardware & vehicles

  • Work with IT teams to ensure seamless integration between business applications and IT infrastructure.

  • Support team members in system verification process, testing and validation of tools and systems that Manufacturing Software is running on.

  • Foster a forward-thinking work culture that embraces change and navigates future organizational and industry challenges.

  • Build and nurture strategic relationships across various functions including software, manufacturing, and program management to synergize efforts towards future innovations.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Advanced experience in software development (preferably 10+ years).

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Advanced programming skills with C, C++, C#, and/or Java languages

  • Firmware development experience

  • Outstanding Software debugging and troubleshooting experience.

  • Ability to read and understand CAN (ISO15765), UDS (ISO14229), and/or DoIP (ISO13400) serial data protocols.

  • Knowledge of vehicle electrical and mechanical systems.

  • Knowledge of vehicle electrical architectures.

  • Ability to technically communicate effectively in the English Language.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • PCB design experience

  • Familiarity with GitHub and Jira

  • Familiarity with End-of-Line Assembly Verification systems such as GTS.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio for software development.

  • Vehicle assembly plant/process experience.
