The Role
The Quality Operations Manager (QOM) is responsible for leading a large size vehicle Plant Quality Operations Team to execute vehicle quality initiatives and manage floor operations across all production shifts for the Quality department. The QOM is key to leading cross functional problem solving to support producing world class Heavy Duty Trucks. This role requires deep knowledge of the GMNA Quality Manual. This position reports to the Flint Assembly Quality Manager.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Ensure quality management system processes are established, implemented, and maintained

Escalate and solve problems influencing vehicle level quality.

Provide assistance in analyzing and solving complex manufacturing problems

Assist in obtaining resources to effectively perform quality operations

Correct and adjust the quality system to changing goals of the plant, organizations, and regulations

Promote awareness of customer requirements throughout the organization

Ensure compliance and has an experienced level knowledge of the GMNA Quality Manual

Develop, participate and drive Business Plan Deployment process
-
Meet all safety, people, quality, responsiveness, cost and environment requirements and targets

Develop and coordinate the plant quality plan in support of the GMNA vision (BIQ4, GMS Next)

Provide coordination/participation of Voice of the Customer (Warranty, Compass, etc.) process, problem solving teams, and gap closure plans.

Coordinate plant remediation, independent repair confirmation (IRC) and quality review processes

Work with production and quality engineering to ensure vehicles meet the completed vehicle inspection standards

Manage all vehicle holds working with GM Logistics and our local logistics company

Communicate between shifts, departmental areas and other departments to implement best practices, resolve problems and sustain consistent performance to objectives

Build and maintain good working relationships with employees, union, and management

Provide environment which stimulates team member involvement and personal growth through communication, suggestions, development training plans, etc.

Understand and consistently administer the National and Local Agreements

Work involves a considerable amount of initiative in decision-making accompanied by a high level of independent discernment.

Assist in the overall direction and coordination of manufacturing activities.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
Significant experience ( 5+ years) in manufacturing, quality engineering, or operations within an automotive or similar complex manufacturing environment.

Demonstrated experience with quality management systems and manufacturing launch.

Strong working knowledge of core quality tools and methodologies, such as PFMEA, control plans, problem-solving (8D, A3, DMAIC), root cause analysis, and error proofing.

Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority across engineering, manufacturing, and supply base.

Demonstrated success in driving standardized processes, metrics, and continuous improvement.

Strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into actionable insights and decisions.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage all levels of the organization.

Must be able to work on a rotating/flexible shift (1st, 2nd or 3rd), as well as overtime and weekends, as needed.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related technical field, or equivalent experience.

Advanced degree in Engineering, Quality, Operations Management, or Business.
-
Experience in a Global Manufacturing or multi-plant environment, with exposure to global standards and best practices.
-
Prior experience in an automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier quality or launch role.

Professional certifications in quality or process improvement (e.g., CQE, CSSGB/CSSBB, Lean, Six Sigma).

Hands-on experience with APQP, PPAP, and other automotive-specific quality requirements.

Familiarity with GM or similar global product development and launch processes, including PQRRs and program gateway reviews.

Demonstrated ability to lead change, build alignment, and sustain adoption of new standards across diverse stakeholder groups.

Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, plan, and execute complex launch activities.
