The Role
As a Senior Sourcing Manager, you will be responsible for purchasing all or a specific portion of productive and/or non-productive materials, supplies, machinery, tooling and/or services. You will be responsible for actively developing commodity strategies, leading complex global sourcing strategies and negotiations with key supplier partners, developing and executing plans to meet direct material budget targets, and collaborating with many suppliers and internal partners.
Senior Global Sourcing Managers are expected to contribute to the development of the purchasing team by using their experience and skills to coach peers. The work is of a sophisticated nature involving a considerable amount of initiative, analytical work, and judgment.
This role requires the candidate to be comfortable operating and solving problems with a high degree of autonomy while working with stakeholders from a variety of different functional groups. Workload will require candidates to use their judgement to prioritize tasks that drive the maximum enterprise benefit for General Motors and the Global Purchasing and Supply Chain function.
What You’ll Do

Lead sourcing and procurement for productive and non‑productive materials, services, equipment, tooling, and finished vehicle logistics

Develop and execute global and regional commodity and sourcing strategies

Manage complex global sourcing events including bid list development, RFQs, quote analysis, and cross‑functional alignment
-
Coordinate RFQ requirements including Terms & Conditions, SOR compliance, technical documentation, and quality inputs
-
Lead supplier negotiations, contract development and amendments, rate management, and spot buys
-
Maintain sourcing pipeline, benchmarking data, sourcing documentation (GM Audit compliant), budgets, and performance metrics
-
Serve as purchasing lead and single point of contact between GM stakeholders and suppliers
-
Lead supplier relationship management, strategic supplier engagement, and KPI reviews
-
Manage yard management and storage strategies, including capacity planning, contract renewals, and cost optimization
-
Provide support for all Modes (Rail, Haul-away, Ocean & Port Processing) network optimization opportunities & special projects

Partner with Logistics Finance to manage budgets, current spend, cost escalations, and future economics

Support launch cadence and vehicle hold situations to ensure uninterrupted vehicle delivery

Represent purchasing in supply chain disruption mitigation and risk management initiatives

Drive continuous improvement initiatives across billing, contract management, bid tracking, automation, and AI-enabled tools

Promote GM values and drive safety, security, and compliance across GM and supplier facilities
-
Support additional projects and initiatives as assigned by leadership
Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
5+ years' experience in purchasing, supply chain, logistics, program/product management, or related fields (any internship or co-op experience will not be considered)

Strong analytical, data‑driven decision‑making and judgment skills
-
Proven negotiation, supplier management, and cross‑functional communication capabilities
-
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in fast‑paced environments
-
SAP or purchasing systems experience (or ability to learn)
-
Willingness to travel ~10% domestically and internationally

Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, Finance, or related discipline

Automotive industry and commodity sourcing experience

Cost analysis, manufacturing, or capacity/materials management knowledge

Ability to interpret technical documentation and understand engineering drivers

Working knowledge of contract law and regulatory/market dynamics impacting sourcing
