The Role
As a Component Graphics Designer, you will create and execute clear, intuitive icons for physical controls and in-vehicle interfaces. Your work will help drivers and passengers quickly understand what each button, switch, and indicator does.
You will collaborate with designers, engineers, and safety experts to turn complex functions into simple, universal visual symbols. You will balance creativity with clarity, making sure every icon is easy to recognize and use in
real-world driving conditions.
This role is hands-on. You will sketch, iterate, build libraries, and guide icons from first idea through final production on vehicles.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
Experience: Recommended, 4+ years of professional experience in icon design, product design, interface design, or a closely related field
-
Education: Bachelor’s degree in any related field or equivalent work experience
-
Role level: Individual contributor (non-managerial) with strong ownership of deliverables

Design skills:
-
Proven ability to design simple, meaningful icons for physical or digital interfaces
-
Strong understanding of visual hierarchy, legibility, and information clarity
-
Ability to work in both low-fidelity sketches and high-fidelity vector artwork
-
Tools: Proficiency with modern design tools like: Adobe Illustrator, Figma or any similar vector-based software.

Communication: Sound communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to explain design decisions
-
Collaboration: Comfortable working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, user experience, human factors, and legal/compliance
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)

Systems thinking: Experience creating and maintaining icon systems or design libraries
-
Standards awareness: Ability to interpret and design to industry standards, safety guidance, and basic regulatory requirements related to symbols and labeling

Additional Tools: Knowledge of 3D software like: Rhino, Alias, NX and Teamcenter

Accessibility: Understanding of accessibility best practices, including legibility, contrast, and color-blind–friendly design

Experience designing icons for vehicles, appliances, consumer electronics, or other complex products
-
Familiarity with user research methods such as usability testing or customer clinics
-
Ability to develop, inspire, and motivate others through clear design direction and feedback
-
Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and teamwork across design and engineering groups
-
Willingness to provide a strategic perspective on icon standards and design systems
-
Comfort taking intelligent risks and exploring new visual solutions while staying grounded in user needs

Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trustworthiness

Demonstrated initiative in identifying problems and driving them to resolution

Strong problem-solving skills and a structured approach to simplifying complex information
