GM Energy’s Hardware Products team is responsible for the definition, development, launch and post-launch support of GM Energy’s residential EV charging and home energy products including the GM portfolio of NACS adapters for residential and public DC fast charging; the PowerUp 2 and PowerShift Level 2 residential chargers, the GM Vehicle-to-Home and Home Energy systems; and the PowerBank residential energy storage system (ESS).
The Role:
The Group Program Manager, Hardware Products leads a team of three Program Managers responsible to drive new product and product feature development programs from conception through launch and to manage cross-functional activities to support products in the field. The GM Energy Program management team defines and manages the GM Energy product stage-gate development process and deliverables; defines program timelines and resourcing plans; identifies and manages program risk and risk mitigation measures; identifies and tracks cross-functional alignment with internal and external partners including GM Energy, GM, suppliers, and other external partners; and schedules and leads cross-functional alignment meetings. The Group Program Manager must develop a strong understanding of GM Energy’s product strategy, product requirements, and technical design and act as a co-leader with the GM Energy Group Product Manager – Residential Products and EV Integration and Group Manager – Product Integration and Engineering to develop and support GM Energy’s charging and home energy products.
What You’ll Do:
Product Development Program Management and Execution
- Define and track program scope, resourcing, budget, and timing for new residential EV charging and home energy products and product features
- Track, report, and manage progress against product development deliverables and timelines across GM Energy, GM, and supplier teams
- Develop and maintain program-risk register, collaboratively identify risk mitigation measures, and drive mitigation actions across cross-functional teams
- Schedule and lead program execution meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Develop recommendations for program changes including timing, resourcing, scope, and risk mitigation
- Manage change request processes for scope, cost, and go-to-market strategy changes
Product Launch & Release Management
- Manage, refine, and maintain the product development stage gate process for GM Energy hardware products (adapted from the GM Global Vehicle Development Process [GVDP])
- Define list of required customer-facing and internal product documentation and deliverables in collaboration with GM Energy, GM, and supplier partners
- Track and confirm GM Energy products are released to vehicle programs in accordance with roadmaps
- Author Program Content Change Requests and manage through vehicle PET/XCR/PRCS systems
- Support Quality Readiness Reviews (QRR) and product validation activities
- Collaborate with Engineering (PIM/DRE), Product Management, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Supplier Partners to identify and track program dependencies and communicate to requirements to Hardware Products team
Post-Launch Product support
- Schedule and manage cross-functional product support forums
- Develop timelines, resource requirements, and cross-functional support required for root cause analysis, corrective actions, and other support for fielded products
- Develop and maintain risk register, collaboratively identify risk mitigation actions
- Track and manage implementation across GM Energy, GM, and supplier teams
- Track requirements for compliance reporting (e.g., Energy Star) and coordinate submission
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or related field
- 7+ years work experience in complex product environments
- 3 years experience in Program Management, Program Engineers, or similar technical leadership roles
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Strong understanding of stage gate processes and product lifecycle management
- Proficiency in program management tools (e.g., MS Project, JIRA, Smartsheet)
- Experience with cross-functional team leadership and stakeholder management
- Strong analytical skills for risk assessment and mitigation planning
- Proven ability to influence outcomes and decision making through indirect leadership
- Excellent communication skills for executive reporting and team coordination
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications):
- 10 years experience in complex hardware precut environments
- 5+ years experience in Program Management leadership roles
- Familiarity with EV charging and home energy product hardware products, product design, and applicable SAE, UL, IEC, and other relevant standards
- Familiarity with vehicle and vehicle accessories validation and test fleet procedures
- Experience working with the General Motors (GM) Global Vehicle Development Process (GDVP)
- Experience supporting and leading vehicle and accessories product launches
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Master’s degree in Business, Engineering Management, or related field
