The Role

The Power and Signal Distribution Systems (PSDS) Sub-Component Lead Engineer is a key position responsible for leading a team of DREs and driving the design, development, integration, and release of critical PSDS sub-components across vehicle programs. In this role, the employee will provide technical and execution leadership for the Sub-component team, with ownership spanning Specialty Cables, Dress Covers, Grommets, Channels, T-harnesses, Clips, Ring Terminals, Coverings, and other sub-components that may transition into PSDS scope in the future.

This role will be responsible for aligning component direction across program needs, technical specialist guidance, supplier execution, and release timing. The position requires close collaboration with global engineering teams, vehicle program teams, Technical Specialists, Purchasing, Validation, Manufacturing, and other Product Development partners to ensure high-quality execution from concept through launch.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a team of DREs responsible for PSDS sub-component content across vehicle programs

  • Provide technical and execution leadership for Specialty Cables, Dress Covers, Grommets, Channels, T-harnesses, Clips, Ring Terminals, Coverings, and future PSDS sub-components

  • Maintain consistency of effort across the team by understanding program timing, requirements, issues, and execution plans and driving alignment when changes are required

  • Support program-specific requirements for sourcing and batch execution processes

  • Provide technical background in supplier technical reviews and support sourcing decisions for sub-component content

  • Manage cost, quality, mass, timing, and complexity for assigned PSDS sub-components, including content and program changes

  • Lead component design, development, integration, and electrical release activities to ensure high-quality vehicle execution

  • Interface between Technical Specialists (TS) and DREs to provide clear design direction and ensure alignment to requirements and methods

  • Conduct team meetings and technical reviews to ensure deliverables and timing are met

  • Support complexity reduction, standardization, and commonization efforts across sub-components

  • Lead benchmarking and tradeoff analysis to support innovation, cost reduction, and business case development

  • Support prototype and pre-production build events, both physical and virtual, to ensure successful execution

  • Provide assembly plant launch and remediation support for sub-component issues

  • Generate technical solutions for current, new, and major programs with engineering teams

  • Support the TS in their technical leadership for advanced technology development and future sub-component growth within PSDS

  • Perform complex design analysis and guide subsystem-level engineering decisions

  • Develop engineering designs, implement engineering changes, and support release of parts and subsystems for production

  • Plan and support test and development activities as required for assigned components

  • Communicate, coordinate, and consult with engineering departments, suppliers, and customers

  • Identify training and development needs for the team and coordinate those needs with EGM approval

  • Stay current on new technology, competitive products, and industry direction related to PSDS sub-components

  • Travel as required

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, Chemistry or Physics

  • 5+ years of professional engineering experience

  • Experience in wire harnessing

  • Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms

  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required

  • High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and effectively with others

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master’s Degree

  • 7+ years of engineering experience in PSDS, sub-components, connectors, specialty cables, wire, or harness packaging

  • Prior experience leading DREs, technical teams, or cross-functional engineering effort

  • Experience with component release, program execution, and launch support in automotive product development

  • Experience driving complexity reduction, standardization, or sourcing strategy for electrical components
