The Role
General Motors is seeking a motivated and experienced Semiconductor Supplier Manager to manage, streamline and optimize our semiconductor supply chain, ensuring supply continuity, and commercial execution across the semiconductor supply base. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on supplier management, semiconductor purchasing, negotiation, analytics, cross-functional problem solving, and driving accountability across internal and external stakeholders. The role supports semiconductor supply chain resiliency and strategic alignment across GM’s business priorities.

What You’ll Do

  • Own day-to-day management of assigned semiconductor suppliers, including performance monitoring, issue resolution, relationship management, and follow-through on critical actions.
  • Drive supplier performance improvements related to supply, delivery, quality, responsiveness, and cost efficiency within the semiconductor commodity.
  • Lead supplier-facing discussions, negotiations, and recovery actions to secure favorable commercial outcomes, mitigate risk, and support business continuity.
  • Work directly with semiconductor manufacturers and supplier partners to understand constraints, lead-time risks, market dynamics, and recovery options.
  • Support complex supply chain initiatives with a strong sense of urgency, using structured problem solving and clear prioritization.
  • Consolidate feedback and operating updates across a large semiconductor supplier base and translate that information into actionable business insights, recommendations, and escalations.
  • Build, maintain, and improve dashboards, scorecards, and ad hoc reports to track supplier performance, supply risk, forecast changes, and follow-up actions.
  • Use GM systems and supply chain tools such as ECM, E-Squared, GDiMPS, Cypris, and GDM to support supplier data management, analysis, forecasting, and execution.
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and other purchasing commodity team to support seamless integration of semiconductor components into GM products and resolve emerging issues quickly.
  • Drive accountability with suppliers and internal stakeholders by building clear business cases, aligning on actions, tracking commitments, and escalating gaps when needed.
  • Identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities in the semiconductor supply chain and recommend practical actions to improve resiliency, operating discipline, and decision quality.
  • Prepare concise, executive-ready updates on supplier performance, market conditions, negotiations, and risk assessments using Microsoft Office tools and business reporting platforms.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in semiconductor procurement, supplier management, purchasing, program management or logistics within the automotive, electronics, or semiconductor industry.
  • Strong experience in supplier and supply chain management, including issue resolution, performance management, and cross-functional execution.
  • Demonstrated experience purchasing semiconductors or managing semiconductor-related commercial and supply activities.
  • Demonstrable experience working in the semiconductor industry or directly with semiconductor manufacturers and suppliers.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, supply markets, and industry dynamics.
  • Proven experience negotiating with suppliers to drive business outcomes, manage risk, and support continuity of supply.
  • Experience supporting complex supply chain operations, constrained supply situations, or crisis-response activities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel, including building dashboards, scorecards, pivots, and ad hoc analyses, plus working knowledge of Power BI for reporting and visualization.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence others, align stakeholders, and hold partners accountable without direct positional authority.
  • Ability to work with urgency, exercise sound judgment, and proactively develop new strategies or alternative execution paths to meet supply chain needs.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Automotive strategic commodity purchasing experience.
  • Experience managing semiconductor suppliers in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with executive reporting, supplier scorecards, and risk dashboards.
  • Proficiency in GM supply chain and supplier-management systems, including ECM, E-Squared, GDiMPS, and GDM.
  • Experience using structured problem-solving, continuous improvement, or process-discipline tools to improve supplier performance and operating outcomes.
