Description
The Role
GM Rochester Operations is a modern, 97-acre, ~1.8 million square-foot manufacturing campus in Rochester, NY, producing precision engine and EV components that go directly into Chevrolet and GMC trucks and the iconic Corvette. Our expansive facility includes high-volume machining, molding, and assembly areas, as well as central utilities and support spaces that keep production running around the clock. Joining this team means helping support a large, complex site that is critical to GM’s current and next-generation vehicle programs.
In this role, the Facilities Management Representative (FMR) serves as the primary point of contact and “building owner” for assigned facility areas, including building maintenance, roads and grounds, utilities, security, and other building services. You will lead and coordinate the delivery of these services, develop and administer service contracts, and partner closely with internal customers and external business partners to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective operations. The FMR represents the needs and priorities of the site’s manufacturing and support teams, sustaining critical building and utility systems while also enabling transformation through new products, technologies, and layouts. You will drive continuous improvement in facility performance and help transform our workspaces into places people want to be by finding better, more creative, and more efficient ways to support how our GM team works.
What You'll Do: (Responsibilities) :
- Serve as the single point of contact and building owner for all facility needs (maintenance, roads & grounds, security systems, etc.) for assigned building(s) and/or business units.
- Coordinate the day‑to‑day delivery of building maintenance and building services to ensure safe, high-quality, and timely support.
- Maintain open, proactive communication between site teams and Facilities leadership, clearly representing “voice of the customer” needs and priorities.
- Coordinate required PMs, repairs, and testing for building mechanical systems (e.g., cooling towers, chillers, HVAC, piping).
- Oversee maintenance, repair, and reliability of all site doors and overhead doors (dock doors, high speed doors, man doors), including PM schedules, break/fix response, and contractor coordination.
- Manage repairs, upgrades, and testing for site life safety and security systems (fire alarm and suppression, underground fire mains, access control/badge systems, CCTV, etc.).
- Support and share responsibility for fire protection system operation, underground repairs, and related maintenance activities with the Facilities/Security team.
- Maintain and continually improve the facilities asset database (e.g. Maximo) for building systems and equipment.
- Develop scope, cost estimates, and timing for facilities related projects.
- Plan and execute projects within approved budget and schedule, coordinating closely with production and maintenance to avoid unplanned disruptions.
- Prepare scope documents, shopping carts, and purchase requests; manage purchase orders, invoice approval, and month end accruals in collaboration with Finance.
- Interface with UAW leadership and comply with local and national labor agreements when coordinating work that affects represented employees.
- Serve as group leader for powerhouse operations and operating engineers, ensuring safe, reliable delivery of utilities and strong execution of standard work.
- Provide day‑to‑day technical direction and oversight to resident business partners and outside contractors to ensure safe work practices and high‑quality execution.
- Support plant safety initiatives; understand GM’s Workplace Safety System Elements & Performance Standards and how this role supports a safe environment through daily work.
Your Skills & Abilities: (Required Qualifications) :
- 2+ years of experience in Facilities Management or Engineering
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Facilities Maintenance/Management, or equivalent experience in a facilities environment.
- Available to work alternative shift schedules, including weekends & holidays.
