The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment is critical to succeed in this role. Work is performed in a team environment, consisting of daily interactions with product engineering, plant engineering, controls, maintenance, operations, and a multitude of others, to successfully launch this new product.  Work will be performed in a plant environment where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. This role owns process performance, people development, and cross‑functional alignment across module and pack mainlines in accordance with GPS ME Battery Assembly BOPs, RESS safety standards, PFMEA/PCP controls, and GM Behaviors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own overall SPQRCE performance for BAB module and pack process team and lead actions to achieve or exceed targets.
  • Lead daily, weekly, and monthly performance routines (tier meetings, GRA, PFMEA basketweave reviews, etc.) ensuring issues are surfaced, prioritized, and closed with verified effectiveness.
  • Ensure effective deployment and governance of PFMEAs, control plans, error‑proofing, and work instructions across assigned areas.
  • Sponsor and approve process changes impacting BAB (layout, tooling, test, error‑proofing, software) and ensure linkage to PFMEA/PCP and change validation plans.
  • Partner with maintenance and controls to ensure robust PM plans, response plans, and obsolescence strategies for critical module and pack equipment.
  • Collaborate with logistics and industrial engineering to optimize material flow, WIP, staffing, and line balancing for module and pack areas.
  • Use data and structured problem solving (4D/8D, root‑cause, layered audits) to eliminate repeat issues and drive Year‑over‑Year productivity, scrap, and rework improvements.
  • Lead a diverse team of engineers and frontline leaders supporting module and pack operations; set clear expectations, priorities, and development plans.
  • Develop, coach, and performance‑manage direct reports, building bench strength and succession for technical roles.
  • Create an inclusive environment where team members feel safe to speak up, challenge assumptions, and bring forward improvements aligned to GMS and GM Behaviors.
  • Coordinate manpower planning with operations and maintenance to ensure adequate coverage for production, launch, debug, and improvement activities.
  • Communicate status, risks, and recovery plans clearly to BAB leadership, GPS ME, and program teams; escalate issues with data and recommended actions.
  • Engineer, Design, Build, Implement and Maintain machinery, tools & equipment
  • Manage significant downtime events by providing technical guidance and support
  • Design work operations that meet safety, quality, and efficiency requirements with high integrity
  • Drive Continuous Improvement efforts in assigned area through the elimination of waste
  • Evaluate bottleneck areas and support throughput and productivity improvements in assigned area
  • Reduce total cost by improving productivity metrics related to equipment uptime, cycle time and quality
  • Participate in lean manufacturing through implementation of GM’s Global Manufacturing System
  • Direct the design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants to produce high-quality parts and propulsion products
  • Provide technical direction to, and oversight of outside vendor sources when vendors are on site

  • Support implementation of new processes & equipment
  • Proactively identify & pursue opportunities to improve operations by reducing cost, reducing energy usage, improve quality, etc.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Industrial) or equivalent technical experience.
  • Significant experience in high‑volume automotive manufacturing; direct experience in battery module and/or pack assembly strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated success as a people leader (team leader, supervisor, or equivalent), including performance management, coaching, and development of technical staff.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing engineering fundamentals: PFMEA, control plans, error‑proofing, BOP, MARO, and structured problem solving.
  • Working knowledge of RESS / EV safety standards, WSS performance standards, and hazard management for live cells, modules, and packs.
  • Ability to influence across functions (ME, MRE/PSE, operations, quality, maintenance, safety, logistics, program teams) and operate with urgency in a high‑change environment.
