At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale..

About the role:

The successful candidate will develop design definitions, system layouts, and virtual vehicle integration solutions for electrification assemblies and components. This role supports Advanced and Systems Design teams in the development of high-voltage batteries, rechargeable energy storage system (RESS) components, and power electronics for electric vehicle applications. The role requires collaboration with engineering support teams, suppliers, and global GM partners.

A fully qualified contributor demonstrates strong knowledge of virtual vehicle integration, CAD modeling, math data management, and vehicle development processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop math-based design solutions that meet subsystem and component requirements.

  • Create, manage, evaluate, refine, and release math data for advanced components, assemblies, and subsystems using NX, Teamcenter, and Active Workspace.

  • Develop system layouts and integrate component and subsystem designs into vehicle systems, including RESS-to-vehicle integration.

  • Create and maintain criteria, sections, Hole Criteria files, and other design data.

  • Apply design standards, modeling methods, manufacturability, Design for Assembly, and integration principles to component and subsystem designs.

  • Use analysis tools to evaluate component math, including Pre/Post, FloEFD, Topology Optimizer, Mold Flow Advisor, and Wall Thickness Checker.

  • Document and maintain material, mass, and other component specifications within math files.

  • Use TCVis and Vis Mockup to review large vehicle assemblies and support vehicle integration.

  • Participate in design reviews by presenting solutions, proposals, and technical recommendations.

  • Ensure seamless communication among subsystem groups, engineers, designers, suppliers, and global partners.

  • Support other designers with design tasks as needed and share lessons learned and best practices.

  • Keep the Design Manager and DLT informed of project status, timing, risks, and technical issues.

  • Ensure high-quality, on-time math releases for components and subsystems.

  • Stay current on product developments, design practices, manufacturing processes, and relevant technical trends.

  • Pursue professional development through coaching, shadowing, formal training, and other learning opportunities.

Required Qualifications

  • Four-year engineering degree or equivalent experience.

  • Experience using NX with Teamcenter and Active Workspace to create, manage, and evaluate math data for advanced components, assemblies, and subsystems.

  • Experience using TCVis to review large vehicle assemblies and support RESS-to-vehicle integration.

  • Knowledge of the design and release process for automotive or mechanical components.

  • Working knowledge of automotive systems, materials, components, specifications, and release processes.

  • Ability to use engineering analysis tools to evaluate component math.

  • Ability to troubleshoot problems, analyze technical issues, and develop effective solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with appropriate direction and support.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively across subsystem teams and with global partners.

  • Working knowledge of GM CAD and data-management systems, GM engineering processes and software, the Global Vehicle Development Process, and math fidelity requirements for each development cycle.

  • Working knowledge of automotive manufacturing processes such as die casting, injection molding, stamping, extrusion, machining, and thermoforming.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of battery cells, cell sensing and bussing, RESS assemblies, electric machines, power inverter modules, or related electrification hardware.

  • Experience creating and using NX user-defined features (UDFs), NX templates, and NX Algorithmic Modeling.

  • Experience managing VAS, BAS, PAS, and associated integration areas.

  • Knowledge of GM standards for component clearances, manufacturing best practices, and design standards.

  • Working knowledge of GD&T, EGD&T, basic stack-up analysis, and drawing creation using NX.

  • Experience with GM GPS drawing standards, including S1100.

  • Experience as a Lead Designer coordinating the work of multiple designers and engineers.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Knowledge of die casting, injection molding, stamping, extrusion, thermoforming, vacuum forming, and other automotive manufacturing processes.
