Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

As we advance toward our vision of ZERO emissions, ZERO crashes, and ZERO congestion, we are seeking a highly motivated and hardworking Program Validation & Safety Engineer (PVSE) to join our Global Product Validation Team.

Our mission is to deliver validated, regulatory compliant, and safe vehicles by proactively identifying and mitigating risks throughout the vehicle development process. The PVSE provides program validation leadership for full size truck programs, ensuring each program meets published requirements and supports execution. You will continuously transform our processes to maximize efficiency, leverage technology, and drive accountability, ultimately leading to the confident and timely signing of the Product Validation Completion Letter (PVCL).

What You'll Do

  • Planning & Execution : Track program DVUL, validation, regulatory, and certification completion from PFI to SORP. Create and integrate the program DVUL plan, LADV plan, and virtual validation (new COSIM) plan into a cohesive program-level strategy.

  • Hardware & Build Management : Gather and optimize hardware requirements to execute program LADV. Achieve budget and horizontal leadership approval for hardware plans at the Global Vehicle Build Exception (GVBE). Ensure "test ready" properties by leading design fidelity assessments. Support PPO builds, attend readiness reviews, order the necessary validation hardware, and manage the Shared Property Usage Form (SPUF) based on the team’s needs.

  • Validation Leadership & Governance : Serve as an independent advocate and the single point of contact between the vehicle program team and validation team. Lead the Program Validation Team (PVT) to gather, document, and communicate status and risks. Coordinate required approvals from functional leaders to ensure the PVCL is completed, archived, and the program meets its regulatory compliance.

  • Risk Management & Problem Solving : Proactively identify, communicate, and resolve validation issues. Escalate validation risks early to secure program team support and prevent impacts to program timing.

  • Program Team Support & Agility : Act as the validation team's single point of contact for program content changes (VAPIR, VPIT, DEV VAL, PET timing workshops). Conduct regulatory and compliance kick-offs. Lead validation process improvements and participate in special assignments as needed to ensure program validation success.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant technical role (excluding co-op/internship experience).

  • Demonstrated high-level oral and written communication skills with an effective interpersonal style for cross-functional collaboration.

  • Strong business acumen and the ability to summarize complex information from multiple sources while identifying risks or missing details.

  • Proficient in Jira, Slack, Power BI.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Advanced technical and professional skills in engineering theory and principles (e.g., mechanical/electrical mechanisms, physics, software, control systems).

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering and or MBA

  • Virtual design, development, and validation experience demonstrating an understanding of virtual team outputs and analytical validation methods.

  • Proven understanding of engineering organization and technical resources to address and resolve differences between regions

  • Can identify and/or define vehicle level/ interface problems that may be outstanding or ambiguous, understands the interdependencies at subsystem, system, feature, and vehicle level and can generate solutions for them as required

  • GM electrical bench / vehicle software experience to support earlier bench activities.

  • Understanding of global architectures and interdependencies at the subsystem, system, feature, and vehicle levels.

  • Experience identifying and managing technical/timing risks, developing strategy roadmaps, and conducting critical path analysis for vehicle-level validation.

  • Ability to thrive in ambiguous situations, develop effective solutions, and drive implementation.

  • Recognized as an innovative, detail-oriented, and self-motivated team player who could grow into a people leader role in the future.
