Description

Work Arrangement

This role is designated as onsite , requiring the successful candidate to work full‑time from the GM office.

Your Role:

Product Engineering leads the Product Engineering team and owns product-engineering coordination and readiness across assigned vehicle programs, systems, and components. The role connects program requirements, local operations, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and global engineering teams to ensure that parts, product applications, engineering deliverables, and build requirements are ready for execution.
This senior role requires strong ownership, sound technical judgment, effective people leadership, and disciplined project management. The successful candidate will lead program engineering planning, localization follow up, build readiness, validation, and launch execution; provide clear engineering direction during build activities; manage team priorities and resources; and drive cross-functional issues and deliverables to closure before each program milestone.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and prioritize Product Engineering activities across vehicle builds, program milestones, localization plans, and launch-readiness activities.

  • Assign responsibilities, balance team workload, develop team capability, and ensure effective coverage of program and build requirements.

  • Manage and review Engineering Part Lists (EPLs), parts lists, bills of material (BOMs), part applications, and product configuration to confirm correct part-number structure, parent-child relationships, quantities, sourcing strategy, and program usage.

  • Monitor supplier development progress at an overview level, including planned deliverables, timing, open actions, risks, approvals, and escalation needs; detailed technical development remains with the responsible technical engineering owners.

  • Investigate and resolve part mismatches, missing parts, incorrect applications, material-readiness gaps, engineering discrepancies, and build-related issues.

  • Coordinate the implementation of approved product changes, sourcing or localization changes, product-data updates, and required documentation corrections with the responsible functions.

  • Manage engineering communication packages, change requests, CPC/EWO follow-up, responses, approvals, and implementation timing through closure.

  • Build and maintain the engineering milestone plan for assigned programs, tracking requirements, deliverables, approvals, risks, and dependencies from planning through design maturity, validation, MVB/PQRR, and launch-readiness gates.

  • Track engineering deliverables and risks against program gates, MVB/PQRR requirements, validation plans, and launch timing.

  • Lead cross-functional containment, issue resolution, and corrective-action follow-up with manufacturing, material flow, quality, suppliers, and global engineering partners, while routing detailed technical design or supplier-development topics to the responsible technical engineering owners.

  • Support build reviews, trial builds, validation activities, product audits, and launch-readiness reviews by providing clear status, risks, decisions, and actions.

  • Maintain accurate EPLs, part lists, BOMs, product applications, sourcing/localization status, engineering milestone plans, and deliverable records in the relevant systems.

  • Reconcile EPL and BOM changes with approved vehicle configuration, assembly requirements, material flow, and supplier implementation timing.

  • Manage the integrated engineering project plan, including timing, dependencies, resources, priorities, risks, decisions, and recovery actions.

  • Prepare concise dashboards, milestone reports, and management updates that communicate readiness, overdue actions, risks, and priorities.

  • Identify recurring issues and drive process improvements that improve lead time, data accuracy, part readiness, and build stability.

Key Scope and Accountability

  • Lead the Product Engineering team and establish clear ownership, priorities, standards, and follow-up for assigned programs and deliverables.

  • Own Product Engineering coordination, feedback, and validation for assigned program issues, build activities, and readiness deliverables.

  • Serve as the senior local program-engineering focal point for assigned systems or commodities, connecting plant execution with global engineering and supplier teams.

  • Represent Product Engineering in program reviews, milestone reviews, escalation forums, and cross-functional decision meetings.

  • Own the accuracy and readiness of EPL and BOM content for assigned programs, ensuring that part numbers, hierarchy, quantities, applications, sourcing strategy, and implementation points align with the approved vehicle configuration.

  • Ensure that supporting engineering information and product applications are aligned with approved configuration and build requirements.

  • Lead technical alignment on issues affecting build execution, product quality, material availability, localization, validation, or engineering compliance.

  • Own the engineering milestone follow-up for assigned programs, ensuring that requirements, EPL/BOM updates, part approvals, validation evidence, change implementation, and open actions are completed before each applicable program gate.

  • Drive engineering requirements and deliverables to completion for program milestones, including MVB and PQRR readiness activities.

  • Coordinate local-part approval, supplier development progress reviews, planned deliverables, timing, validation evidence, and closure of open engineering actions.

  • Maintain visibility of supplier development status without taking ownership of detailed supplier technical design or engineering development activities.

  • Manage the integrated program-engineering plan, including scope, timing, resources, dependencies, risks, actions, and milestone commitments.

  • Manage cross-functional risks, escalate issues early, and establish clear containment and recovery plans.

  • Coordinate approved engineering changes and implementation actions without assuming primary ownership of component design or formal design-release responsibility.

  • Represent the local Product Engineering function with manufacturing, quality, material flow, suppliers, program leadership, and global engineering partners.

  • Coach and develop Product Engineering team members through structured objectives, technical guidance, workload management, and performance follow-up.

  • Promote accurate, timely, and transparent reporting of program status, risks, decisions, and actions.

Key Performance Indicators
Success in this role will be measured through:

  • Timely containment and closure of product, build, supplier, and engineering issues.

  • Readiness of assigned parts, systems, and program deliverables for planned builds and milestones.

  • Successful approval and implementation of local, sourced, and localization-related parts and changes.

  • Timely achievement of engineering requirements for MVB, PQRR, validation, and launch-readiness gates.

  • Accuracy and timely completion of EPLs, BOMs, part applications, parts lists, sourcing status, product data, and engineering readiness records.

  • Timely closure of CPC/EWO actions, supplier responses, approvals, validation evidence, and cross-functional deliverables.

  • Accurate status reporting, early risk escalation, disciplined action tracking, and effective stakeholder communication.

  • Reduction of repeated issues, improved response lead time, and support for stable, high-quality vehicle launches.

  • Effective use of dashboards and digital tracking to provide current visibility of engineering deliverables and risks.
