At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies

Overview

The Studio Engineering Technical Leader (SETL) is an innovation-focused leader who unites design and engineering solutions to bring integrated solutions that improve customer value, execution efficiency, and enterprise outcomes. This role leads cross-functional problem solving, develops new integration approaches, and translates complex technical and manufacturing constraints into practical, scalable solutions.  The SETL will lead a team of technical specialists in lighting, Pedestrian protection (VRU), IP/Consoles, ADAS integration, and GTO.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Lead and introduce new solutions across programs.  Move the needle on perennial design challenges (spaciousness, FOH, quality and craftmanship issues, etc).  Coach and enable your technical specialist to prioritize the highest impact projects.  Link the engineering experts in different domains to the studio work and align projects on their side with pain points design & the customer share.

  • Solution Development: Own the decision-making process by framing problems clearly, evaluating alternatives, aligning stakeholders, and advancing innovative solutions that can be executed within program timing and enterprise constraints.
  • Benchmarking: Exhibit a profound understanding of benchmarking, inspiring your team to reach new heights in integrated architecture and theme enablement.
  • Innovation Execution: Identify, develop, and implement new ways to reduce complexity, improve integration quality, streamline GVDP, and enable scalable compartment solutions across programs.
  • Harmonize engineering, manufacturing, studio, and business imperatives with a total enterprise focus on integration efficiency and solution scalability.
  • Communicate program status with clarity, propelling informed decision-making.
  • Seamlessly weave Total Enterprise progress with Engineering criteria, ensuring a design space that's both viable and visionary.
  • Advocate for Occupant Accommodations, protecting the customer’s experience of Visibility, Spaciousness, Access, Storage, Cargo, and Driver Accommodation.
  • Lead virtual integration activities with foresight, using digital reviews, math syncs, benchmarking, and data-driven insights to uncover risks and develop solutions earlier.
  • Proactively identify and resolve integration issues through creative problem solving, disciplined trade-off management, and timely stakeholder alignment.
  • Optimize BOM re-use with strategic insight.
  • Safeguard architecture bandwidth while resolving issues with creativity, technical judgment, and a bias toward reusable solutions.
  • Contribute engineering insights to shape the future of clinic properties and mock-up activities.
  • Engage in Math Sync points and Virtual Reviews with a keen eye for detail.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Science or other related degree.
  • 8+ years of experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of CAD systems, including VIS, and a solid understanding of math‑model creation processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead ambiguous, cross‑functional technical challenges and translate them into actionable innovation.
  • Deep knowledge of GVDP and GM’s global vehicle engineering processes.
  • Proven capability to optimize vehicle design holistically while balancing innovation, reuse, complexity reduction, manufacturability, and customer experience.
  • Strong collaboration skills with global engineering and manufacturing partners.
  • Robust manufacturing knowledge across key processes and disciplines.
  • Strong competitive awareness and a drive to outperform industry benchmarks.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Master of Science Degree in Engineering.
  • 5 years of experience in Vehicle Integration or SMT.
  • 10 years of experience in a related field, building a legacy of innovation and success.
  • Strong Supplemental Manufacturing Experiences.
  • People leader experience.
