Description

The Role

A General Supervisor leads the operational function of a warehouse processing center or distribution center and is accountable for safe, reliable, and customer-focused warehousing activities. You will direct daily operations on an assigned shift and lead salaried and hourly employees who support accurate, timely, and high-quality customer shipments. You will establish expectations, remove operational barriers, reinforce safe work practices, and partner with employees, union representatives, site leadership, and business partners to deliver performance in a fast-paced processing-center environment. The role requires sound judgment and initiative to make decisions with limited guidance while keeping site leadership informed of significant risks, issues, and performance trends.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead daily warehouse operations for the assigned shift, aligning staffing, material flow, equipment, and priorities with business needs.
  • Manage, coach, and develop salaried and hourly employees by setting expectations, providing feedback, recognizing contributions, and addressing performance concerns.
  • Maintain a visible safety culture by enforcing workplace safety rules, supporting ergonomics and housekeeping standards, and addressing hazards and near misses.
  • Monitor productivity, quality, inventory accuracy, responsiveness, and shipment performance; communicate gaps and implement timely countermeasures.
  • Ensure customer shipments are accurate, complete, and delivered on schedule.
  • Build productive working relationships with employees, union representatives, site leadership, and cross-functional partners while consistently administering company policies, operating procedures, applicable labor agreement provisions, and standardized work.
  • Participate in staffing and selection activities, onboarding, training, qualification, and succession development.
  • Apply structured problem-solving and continuous-improvement methods to reduce variation, eliminate recurring issues, improve material flow, and strengthen process stability.
  • Ensure effective shift handoffs and escalation routines, and communicate operational risks, priorities, performance updates, and action plans to site leadership.
  • Partner with Quality, Materials, Maintenance, Workplace Safety, Human Resources and Labor Relations, Engineering, Transportation, and other support organizations to resolve issues and sustain performance; support GM standards, Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) practices, and site operating routines.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • High School Diploma
  • 5+ years' experience leading warehouse, distribution, logistics, material-handling, manufacturing, or processing-center operations.
  • Strong knowledge of warehouse execution, inventory control, shipping and receiving, material flow, and customer-service requirements.
  • Ability to work effectively with union representatives and cross-functional business partners.
  • Ability to work a nonstandard schedule, including assigned shifts, overtime, weekends, holidays, or schedule changes as business needs require.
  • Ability to use standard business and operational systems to review performance, document actions, and communicate results.

What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience in automotive aftermarket, parts distribution, warehouse processing, or a comparable high-volume operation.
  • Experience leading a union-represented workforce or working under applicable labor agreement provisions.
  • Experience with warehouse management systems, automated storage and retrieval systems, material-handling equipment, or related technologies.
  • Familiarity with Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS), BIQ, lean principles, standardized work, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Experience leading multishift operations, launch activities, process changes, or continuous-improvement initiatives.
  • Experience using operational metrics and data to identify trends, prioritize actions, and improve results.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and hold employees accountable in a team-based environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to resolve conflicts and communicate operational issues clearly.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving, decision-making, prioritization, and initiative, with the ability to make sound decisions with limited guidance.
  • High integrity, accountability, sound judgment, and adaptability in a fast-paced processing-center environment.
