To advance this initiative, GM is actively hiring in Silicon Valley and Austin, seeking mission-driven talent focused on customer-centric technology and sustainability to build next-generation commercial fleet platforms at scale.

As an Engineering Manager , you will lead the team responsible for building, scaling, and maintaining GM’s Commercial eCommerce platform. You will drive the technical roadmap, translate business and functional requirements into robust systems, evaluate emerging technologies, and oversee end-to-end delivery—from scoping through production issue resolution—across critical monetization domains, including product catalog, billing, and payments.

In this role, you will partner closely with cross-functional leaders in Product Management, Design, and Business to deliver foundational platform services that empower product teams across GM to launch and monetize their product rapidly.


What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Lead and grow a full-stack engineering team, providing mentorship, career growth, and setting up a culture of engineering excellence. 
  • Lead the development of GM Commercial eCommerce roadmap.
  • Lead cross‑functional meetings to drive issue resolution and support design discussions that meet program milestones.
  • Be deeply involved technically with your team, helping shape designs, architecture, participating in code reviews and incident post-mortem.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Domain Expertise : 8+ years of experience in software development, product building, or similar domains. 
  • Team Building: 3+ years in engineering management. You have a proven ability to recruit top talent, cultivate technical career growth, and foster high-performing engineering cultures.
  • Execution Leadership: Must have experience and be comfortable leading highly technical teams through the software development lifecycle (SDLC) utilizing industry standard/best practice for software development approaches.
  • System Design: Expertise designing fault-tolerant, event-driven architectures where data integrity is paramount—mastery of idempotent APIs, ordered messaging, event sourcing/durable logs, and at-least-once/effectively-once guarantees.
  • Integration Expertise: Deep experience connecting core services with external ecosystems, including payment processors, tax automation, and enterprise ERPs.
  • Production Excellence: Experience defining strict SLIs/SLOs for mission-critical financial paths and delivering tangible operational wins (e.g., automated reconciliation, faster close times, zero-loss settlement).
  • Execution & Pragmatism: Comfortable bridging the gap between digital software, regulated hardware, and complex physical operations. You thrive in ambiguity and make decisive, pragmatic architectural tradeoffs under tight audit and launch constraints.
  • Education: BS in CS/CE/EE or equivalent practical experience.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Team Building: 5+ years in engineering management.
  • Education: MS or PHD in CS/CE/EE or equivalent practical experience.
  • Monetization Expertise 3+ years building commercial platforms (catalog, subscription/usage billing, payments, reporting) within strict compliance and audit environments ( PCI-DSS , SOX ).
  • Enterprise Partnership: Prior experience working with Business and Sales teams, and understanding Enterprise journeys is a big plus.
