WORK LOCATION
GM’s Spring Hill General Assembly team is looking for a process engineer to help support the plant in current and future launches of GM’s outstanding products. The selected candidate will work onsite at our manufacturing facility in Spring Hill Tennessee, which includes the most automated General Assembly Department in General Motors. Production is currently a 2-shift operation, and the candidate will be assigned to either of the shifts.
JOB DESCRIPTION / KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The selected candidate will be responsible for defining, developing, and continuously improving General Assembly manufacturing processes to meet safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives. Participates in functional area meetings to assist in improving plant performance. Work is performed in a team environment, consisting of daily interactions with production, maintenance, quality, operations, industrial engineering and a multitude of others. Work will be performed in a plant environment where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment. As a Process Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in advancing new technologies and promoting simple, safe solutions within our manufacturing processes. The candidate is responsible for owning and leading compliance to defined PCP’s (Process Control Plans) and TEB’s (Tooling & Equipment Bulletins) within in General Assembly.
Responsibilities include:
- Local SME (Subject Matter Expert) of assigned PCP’s and TEB’s
- Support General Assembly with process, equipment, and safety related issues
- Provide input to equipment / system design improvements.
- Ensure that new process equipment gets proper Maximo tasking and spare parts planning
- Provide technical direction to and oversight of outside vendors as required.
- Assist in project management with the vehicle systems project execution team.
- Complete design reviews and G-Risk (safety) assessments
- Attend equipment buyoffs at vendor sites
- Participate in and support BPD (business plan deployment) meetings and activities
- Participate in the TIP (Throughput Improvement Process) meetings for areas of responsibility
- Participate in lessons learned gathering activity and feedback with the central process teams and sister plants
- Must be willing to work off shifts and extended hours from time to time.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and complex projects with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results
- Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
- Demonstrated interest and ability to learn and apply agile methodologies throughout daily work and projects
- Effectively deals with ambiguity and copes with change
- Experience in troubleshooting manufacturing automated equipment
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Basic Required
• Ability to troubleshoot basic electrical controls
• Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic systems/circuits
• Ability to provide technical direction and teach others
• Database and software skills required to perform this position are the following: proficiency in MS Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and 3D CAD software (i.e. AutoCAD Inventor).
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
• 2-3 years of plant experience
• Knowledge of MAXIMO, DCC, and SAP
• Experience with Siemens NX CAD
• Experience with Siemens Teamcenter PLM
• Ability to create new designs using CAD for 3D printing or metal fabrications
• Familiarity with GM’s PQRS system
• Process Controls Management (i.e. error proofing, vision systems) experience
• Understanding of Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) and all manufacturing engineering disciplines
• Understanding of GMIT manufacturing IT systems
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree with major in engineering or equivalent experience/training.
