The Role:
At this level you are expected to operate with a high level of independent discernment and are typically responsible for implementing functional strategy, administering and coordinating programs, counseling and advising management. As a fully-qualified individual contributor who has thorough knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the function, you will provide expert judgment and analysis for the design, development and implementation of technical products and systems.
You will resolve highly complex technical issues and conducts advanced research and recommend alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures.
This person will be skilled and proficient with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures and rely mostly on extensive personal experience and discernment to plan and accomplish goals.
You will perform multiple tasks. Lead and likely direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
Responsible for Accessory Engineering leadership/oversight to “IBP” (Integrated Business Partner) projects. This includes Global process oversight for all regions as well as both process and engineering oversight for each project in the US. Work as a single point contact with the Accessory/Performance Marketing group for IBP projects with critical interface to each of the Accessory/Performance EGMs. Development of requirements to Marketing and impacted suppliers including any test or safety evaluation as required. Utilize creativity and initiative as well as some independent judgment. Looks for Innovation opportunities and “gap filling” of the Accessory/Performance Portfolio. Exercises technical direction over projects, other engineers or support personnel, and may have work direction responsibilities over a small group with specific engineering objectives. Facilitates all Safety and Compliance discussions with the appropriate organizations. Facilitates approvals with the appropriate SMT GSSLT / BFO Engineers / TIEs Validation / Program Teams / MPG Engineers or other Technical Experts. Consults with supervisor as required.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Critical communication and coordination with Accessory Marketing IBP team and Engineering Leadership
- Lead monthly global meetings with regional accessory teams to review projects and assist with approval process
- Evaluate engineering designs (including subsystems) and critical points of integration with vehicle/programs (including Advanced Vehicle Development to communicate vehicle level enablers required for integration of IBP parts)
- Determine appropriate vehicle level release (MY, vehicle, vehicle variants) for each product and provide to service engineering
- Evaluate IBP portfolio annually for fit/interface to next MY vehicle and assure appropriate release
- Solve engineering related problems
- Plan and implement component evaluations / vehicle evaluations and/or development programs as needed
- Lead Engineering discussions on IBP projects and complete IBP portfolio and understand status of each project and its approval status
- Stay abreast of new technology and competitive products
- Interface with all SMTs (Chassis, Electrical, Interior, Body Structure / Closures, Exterior)
- Vehicle Coordination with MPG development teams
- Ability to deal with ambiguity
- Travel as required
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- BSE, BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, , Physics, Materials Engineering
- 10+ years of relevant experience
- DFSS Certification
- Experience of Engineering Release (DRE) in two different SMT (Interior, Exterior, Chassis, Electrical or Commodity areas
- Good working knowledge of GVDP as well as Engineering Organization and BFO/GSSLT organization
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- Familiarity with production processes such as injection molding, stamping, cut and sew, extrusions, electrical, electrical interface, Class A Surface Requirements, etc
- Strong analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and effectively with others
- Specific knowledge of engineering mechanics, physics, metallurgy and manufacturing methods engineering
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
- Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
- Valid Driver’s License

- 15+ years of relevant experience
- Knowledge and experience in Accessory or Aftersales business
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering
