The Role

The Assembly Execution Engineer will support the launch and execution of automatic transmission assembly programs at Toledo Propulsion Systems, including GF8 and AB1V. This role is responsible for helping transform program requirements into safe, capable, production-ready assembly processes and equipment. The engineer will work closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Product Engineering, Plant Operations, Quality, Safety, suppliers, and program leadership to deliver equipment installation, qualification, production readiness, and PPAP activities in alignment with GM standards and expectations.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the installation, integration, commissioning, and optimization of assembly machinery, equipment, tooling, and process technologies.

  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers, contractors, plant personnel, and engineering teams to ensure installation activities are completed safely, on schedule, and according to approved requirements.

  • Support equipment acceptance, safety reviews, green-tag readiness, process qualification, and capability studies prior to production use.

  • Develop, maintain, and track execution deliverables, timing plans, open issues, risks, and recovery actions for assigned program scope.

  • Support build events, trial runs, run-at-rate activities, launch readiness reviews, and production ramp-up.

  • Partner with Quality and Plant teams to identify process risks, resolve launch issues, and establish robust controls for first-time quality.

  • Prepare, coordinate, and complete PPAP documentation and related manufacturing deliverables in accordance with GM requirements.

  • Verify that assembly processes meet applicable safety, quality, ergonomic, throughput, dimensional, and process-control expectations.

  • Lead structured problem-solving activities for equipment, process, and product issues using data-driven methods.

  • Review engineering changes and ensure implementation plans, timing, documentation, and shop-floor updates are completed effectively.

  • Communicate program status, technical concerns, countermeasures, and escalation needs to stakeholders and leadership.

  • Promote standardized work, lessons learned, and continuous improvement across automatic transmission assembly programs

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

  • Experience in manufacturing engineering, assembly process engineering, equipment installation, launch execution, or a related technical field.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams, equipment suppliers, contractors, and plant operations.

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes, industrial equipment, tooling, automation, and production launch activities.

  • Understanding of quality systems, process validation, PPAP, control plans, PFMEA, standardized work, and structured problem solving.

  • Strong commitment to safe work practices and the ability to identify, communicate, and mitigate safety risks.

  • Strong organizational, communication, technical problem-solving, and project execution skills.

  • Ability to work on the plant floor and support activities across shifts, including occasional off-shift, weekend, or shutdown support as program timing requires

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with automatic transmission, powertrain, or complex mechanical assembly processes.

  • Experience supporting GM manufacturing systems, launch deliverables, equipment acceptance, green-tag activities, or PPAP processes.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing documentation, process flow diagrams, PFMEA, control plans, gages, torque systems, leak testing, end-of-line testing, and traceability systems.

  • Experience with supplier management, project timing, issue tracking, and escalation.

  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methods, capability analysis, DOE, or other data-driven problem-solving tools.

  • Experience supporting GF8, AB1V, or similar automatic transmission program launches.
