GM’s Mechatronic Infrastructure Diagnostic System team is offering you an opportunity to rapidly develop your technical and leadership skills to become tomorrow's most sought-after Diagnostic Professional.
We are seeking a motivated co-op student to support a digital modernization initiative focused on migrating diagnostic content, data, and collaboration solutions from Microsoft-based platforms to new platforms such as Google Workspace, Confluence, Jira, GitHub, etc…
What You'll Do
In this role, you will help convert Microsoft products into structured GitHub files, Markdown files, Confluence pages, and Goolgle Workspace equivalents. You will redevelop SharePoint websites using Google-based solutions and migrate SharePoint lists into appropriate destinations. You will use develop or use AI agents as a critical part of the migration workflow to accelerate analysis, transformation, documentation, and quality checks while applying sound judgment and validating all AI-generated results. This is an opportunity to gain practical experience in data transformation, information architecture, cloud collaboration platforms, automation, and responsible use of AI. Additional work initiatives will include innovating new test automation tools/scripts, automatically extract and link data from repositories, updating visualization boards, and more. Success will be measured by how much you bolster and improve the overall health of the enterprise diagnostic ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities:

Analyze existing Microsoft Workspace files, SharePoint websites, and SharePoint lists to understand their structure, content, relationships, and business purpose.

Define and apply mapping rules between Microsoft Workspace products and their Google Workspace equivalents.

Reproduce Microsoft-based documents, spreadsheets, presentations, forms, and collaboration content in Google Workspace where appropriate.

Redevelop SharePoint websites as equivalent Google-based sites while preserving usability, navigation, key content, and business requirements.

Convert SharePoint lists into suitable approved solutions such as Github, Jira, or other.
-
Identify content, fields, links, permissions, workflows, and dependencies that may require special handling during migration.

Develop repeatable processes, templates, scripts, AI-assisted workflows, or other automation to reduce manual conversion effort and improve consistency.

Ensure new data is accurate, consistent, and maintainable.

Use approved AI tools to assist with content analysis, field mapping, YAML generation, site and list conversion, documentation, and migration-quality reviews.

Validate migrated content through structured comparisons, data checks, usability reviews, and stakeholder feedback, including verification of AI-assisted outputs.

Document conversion procedures, assumptions, mapping decisions, known limitations, and recommended follow-up actions.

Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, and subject-matter experts to clarify requirements and resolve migration issues.

Follow GitHub version-control practices, including branching, pull requests, reviews, and clear commit documentation.
Required Qualifications:
-
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering or Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, Software Engineering, Applied Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

Eligible to work full time hours, 40 hours a week for a term of 4 or 8 or 12 months (consecutive semesters) starting January 2027
Preferred Skills:
-
Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, including tables, filters, formulas, and data organization.

Basic understanding of YAML, JSON, XML, or another structured data format.
-
Familiarity with Git and GitHub, including repositories, branches, commits, and pull requests.
-
Previous co-op or internship experience using AI tools as part of daily work, such as for research, data transformation, coding, documentation, analysis, or workflow automation.

Previous experience creating AI agents, including RAGs.

Ability to write clear prompts, evaluate AI-generated results, identify errors or unsupported assumptions, and apply human review before using outputs.

Previous experience with Python, Jira, Confluence, Markdown

Ability to understand existing information structures and translate them into clear, maintainable designs.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently, manage priorities, and ask effective questions when requirements are unclear.

Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication skills.

Ability to ask questions, seek clarification, and challenge norms to rapidly overcome challenges.

Creative talent and effective use of drawing tools to create images, graphs, charts, etc., to convey messages.

The monthly salary range for this role is $4,264.00 to $4784.00. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
