The Role:

This 12-week internship offers the opportunity to work within Global Purchasing & Supply Chain (GPSC) on a high-visibility strategic project tied to real business needs. You will help GM source, buy, build, and move materials at scale while contributing to a resilient, agile, cost-effective, and sustainable supply base.

Depending on business needs and your experience, your assignment may support supply chain automation, strategic purchasing, advanced analytics, risk sensing, demand and supply planning, supplier resiliency, process improvement, or digital transformation. You will work across functions to turn complex business challenges into actionable recommendations and measurable business outcomes.

Potential Assignment Areas

Assignment scope and functional placement will be aligned to business needs, candidate experience, and organizational priorities. Candidates may be considered for one or more of the assignment areas described below:

Supply Chain Automation, AI & Process Improvement

  • Simplify purchasing and supply chain processes and support automation, AI, analytics, workflow, and systems-integration solutions that improve productivity, data quality, decision-making, and user experience.

Purchasing & Strategic Sourcing

  • Support sourcing for parts, services, automation equipment, and other purchasing needs, including RFx and bid packages, supplier development and evaluation, sourcing events, benchmarking, cost analysis, contract strategy, and supplier performance management.

Supply Chain Analytics, Risk & Innovation

  • Analyze supply chain, supplier, operational, and supply/demand data to improve visibility, identify risks, support predictive decision-making, and strengthen supply chain mapping and event-to-response timelines.

Operations Strategy, Planning & Supplier Resiliency

  • Support operations strategy, demand and supply planning, supplier resiliency, logistics, and cost optimization across areas such as Value-Added Assembly, the Logistics Optimization Center, Supplier Park, manufacturing, and warehousing.

What You’ll Do in the Role

  • Analyze complex business problems, data, workflows, and operational information to identify risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities.

  • Translate findings into clear recommendations, business cases, implementation plans, and decision materials for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Support the development and execution of purchasing, sourcing, supply chain, and operational strategies.

  • Conduct market, supplier, benchmarking, and cost analyses to identify opportunities, risks, innovation, and savings.

  • Help evaluate suppliers, processes, tools, and technology solutions based on business requirements and expected outcomes.

  • Support the development, testing, and implementation of analytics, automation, AI-enabled, and other digital solutions.

  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Finance, Legal, IT, Supplier Quality, Customer Care & Aftersales, Command Centers, suppliers, and other partners.

  • Present insights and recommendations to leaders and stakeholders, helping align priorities, remove roadblocks, and drive measurable outcomes.

  • Manage priorities, communicate progress, and deliver results independently in a fast-moving and ambiguous environment.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications): 

  • Currently enrolled in an MBA program.

  • Must be graduating between December 2027 and June 2028.

  • Two to five years of professional experience in procurement, supply chain, technology, consulting, or business strategy.

  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week, during the summer months.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex business problems and synthesize information from multiple data sources into clear recommendations.

  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.

What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience improving business processes through analytics, process mapping, Lean/Six Sigma, automation, systems integration, or digital transformation.

  • Experience or exposure to purchasing, strategic sourcing, RFx or bid packages, supplier management, supplier development, benchmarking, cost analysis, or contract strategy.

  • Familiarity with supplier risk, supplier resiliency, supplier performance, logistics, demand and supply planning, or supply chain mapping.

  • Exposure to AI, robotics, IoT, RPA, workflow automation, analytics platforms, or other technology-enabled operations.

  • MBA concentration in Operations, Supply Chain, Strategy, Analytics, Finance, or a related field; automotive or manufacturing experience is a plus.

  • Familiarity with tariff/USMCA considerations, sustainability KPIs, or complex automotive and manufacturing value chains.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with Google Workspace is a plus.

Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center – Cole Engineering Center, Warren, MI, three times per week, at minimum.
