Why join us?
General Motors pioneers the innovations that move and connect people to what matters. We see a world with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. Autonomous vehicles are central to achieving this vision—where long‑term innovation meets safety, customer trust, and durable competitive advantage.
The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Product Management organization is responsible for defining and delivering GM’s autonomous driving roadmap—from near‑term customer value to long‑term eyes‑off autonomy at scale. Our mission is to deploy autonomy deliberately and profitably across GM’s portfolio, leveraging common platforms, data, and disciplined product strategy to improve safety, unlock new customer value, and create sustainable business outcomes globally.
The Role
We are looking for a Staff Product Manager to help lead complexity and cost‑reduction initiatives across GM’s Autonomous Driving portfolio. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, execution, and enterprise alignment. You will work across engineering, finance, program management, purchasing, and regional teams to ensure GM delivers a compelling and profitable global autonomous driving roadmap.
As a Staff‑level leader, you will establish the frameworks that govern product scope, content expectations, and trade‑off decisions, manage deviations from plan, and serve as a primary liaison to surrounding organizations for AV content alignment. You will be expected to operate with a high degree of autonomy, influence without authority, and navigate complex organizational dynamics while keeping customer, safety, and business outcomes front and center.
What You’ll Do
-
Lead portfolio‑level initiatives focused on reducing system complexity and cost while preserving customer value, safety performance, and long‑term scalability across GM’s autonomous driving products.
-
Define and maintain product frameworks that clarify scope, content expectations, decision rights, and trade‑off mechanisms across global AV programs.
-
Partner with engineering, finance, purchasing, and program teams to evaluate cost, capability, and timing trade‑offs, manage deviations, and drive alignment to approved product strategies.
-
Coordinate cross‑enterprise stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and scalable autonomous driving roadmap across regions, vehicle platforms, and technology generations.
-
Translate strategic objectives into clear product narratives, requirements, and success metrics that guide execution teams and investment decisions.
-
Serve as a trusted product liaison to adjacent organizations, ensuring alignment on AV content, sequencing, and expectations globally.
-
Communicate product strategy, risks, and progress to senior leadership with clarity, data, and structured recommendations.
-
Identify emerging risks and opportunities across the portfolio and proactively drive mitigation, simplification, or course correction.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
7+ years of product management or closely related experience, with demonstrated ownership of complex, cross‑functional initiatives.
-
Proven ability to operate at both strategic and execution levels, establishing durable frameworks while driving tangible outcomes.
-
Strong analytical and financial acumen, with experience evaluating cost, complexity, and value trade‑offs.
-
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders through clear, data‑driven narratives.
-
Demonstrated success navigating ambiguity and complex organizational dynamics in large, matrixed organizations.
-
Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and proactively identify and resolve risks.
-
Comfort engaging deeply with technical concepts and translating them for non‑technical audiences.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
-
Experience in autonomous driving, ADAS, or other safety‑critical automotive systems.
-
Experience working with global product portfolios and regional content variations.
-
Background in systems engineering, hardware‑software integration, or large‑scale cost and complexity optimization initiatives.
-
Experience influencing executive‑level decisions in complex, cross‑enterprise environments.
-
Advanced degree in engineering, business, or a related field.
