The Role:
General Motors is a global leader in advanced driver assistance. With Super Cruise hands-free technology in more than 500,000 Super Cruise-equipped vehicles on the road, and over 700 million hands‑free miles driven, GM is proving that automation can be trusted, intuitive, and helpful. GM has the global reach to bring cutting‑edge advances to everyday drivers at an unprecedented scale. Join us to help deliver the next generation of safe and delightful personal autonomous vehicle experiences.
About the Organization:
The Evaluation team builds and evolves the evaluation ecosystem that powers developing and scaling GM’s autonomous driving technology. We develop metrics, automated workflows, and analysis approaches that enable data-driven decisions across AV development and verification. Partnering with Autonomy, Simulation, Systems, and Safety teams, we act as system-level integrators and arbiters of end-to-end AV quality. We own large scale test scenario libraries, continuous evaluation pipelines, and critical risk assessment and release gating components, treating road testing, data mining, training, and metrics as first-class use cases in a unified analytics framework. By joining this team, you will help shape GM’s core evaluation platforms, turn system-level results into clear feedback, and help accelerate validated AV deployment at scale.
What You’ll Do:
-
Design, build, and maintain large-scale evaluation pipelines that quantify the accuracy and reliability of simulation tests used for autonomous vehicle software validation.
-
Develop and maintain GM’s core simulation evaluation dashboards and reports, delivering clear, actionable, and interpretable insights to engineering teams and leadership, including trend analysis and monitoring of simulation trust drift.
-
Collaborate with cross-functional partners across Autonomy, Systems, Safety, and Simulation to define, refine, and drive consensus on simulation validation methodologies and requirements.
-
Uphold high standards for code quality and software architecture through code reviews and technical leadership, mentoring other engineers on software engineering and simulation testing best practices.
-
Leverage AI-assisted development tools and analytics platforms to enhance productivity, improve code quality, and drive innovation in simulation testing.
What You Must Have:
-
5+ years of applied experience developing complex evaluation, simulation, or test frameworks.
-
Proficient in developing Python for production systems, including unit testing, code review, performance tradeoffs, and reliability best practices.
-
Demonstrated ability to drive technical design and execution across multiple teams and organizations in a remote or distributed environment.
-
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
-
BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge:
-
A strong, data-driven curiosity to investigate anomalies and systematically root-cause discrepancies.
-
Experience evaluating robotics systems or autonomous vehicles, including working on simulation frameworks.
-
Familiarity with SQL, time-series data analysis, performance monitoring tools and dashboarding systems (e.g., Looker, Streamlit).
Compensation:
-
The expected base compensation for this role is: $129,400 - $198,400. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
-
You also need to include general information about potential commissions, if applicable.
-
Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
Benefits:
-
Benefits: GM offers a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs. Benefit options include medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, employee assistance program, GM vehicle discounts and more.
