Role Summary:
Are you a passionate about chassis controls? Does working on cutting edge chassis technology get you excited to come to work? Do you enjoy working on software and calibration? Are you creative, innovative, and eager to do things we’ve never done before at GM? If so, you should apply for Chassis Controls Project Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and executing the “Design First” principles to enable new chassis technologies to go from concept to a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6 and beyond. To properly develop new technologies, you will work with Controls Design Engineers, Model in the Loop Engineers, and a Rapid Prototype team to develop a solid controls foundation. The end result will be a proof of concept that is ready to move to a production team.
The role is to help lead our Chassis organization to “Enable Confident, Early Design Decisions on Chassis Technology.” To create an engineering environment where teams can make early, confident design decisions through models, simulation, and structured exploration of the problem space.
Our mission is to help engineers discover risks sooner, evaluate options thoughtfully, and refine designs efficiently while improving quality and reducing rework. By focusing on early insight rather than late correction, Controls Design First strengthens safety, performance, and technical clarity across control‑system development.
Through shared standards, collaborative reviews, and an integrated toolchain, we aim to build organizational alignment, support innovation, and deliver measurable improvements in engineering outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development of new chassis features and technologies using the Design First mindset and principals
- Plan project execution for manpower, tools, and test beds through the proof of concept phase
- Prepare new chassis feature for hand off to production team. Documentation, Calibration Strategy, and Systems Requirements.
- Lead Assess current TRL for a new chassis technologies
- Prepare project plans to achieve TRL level 6 through planned gate reviews.
- Explore the problem using low-fidelity models and simple control structures early.
- Identify key constraints, operating envelopes, and failure modes before choosing an architecture.
- Increase model fidelity as the design converges and uncertainty decreases.
- Validate requirements, assumptions, and safety considerations early through simulation.
- Document alternatives, decisions, and rationale at each design milestone.
