Staff Technical Program Manager, AI Training Program
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard – from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.
The Role
We are seeking a Staff Technical Program Manager (TPM) to lead the AI Training Program for our autonomous driving platform. In this role, you will own strategy and execution for large‑scale data, tooling, and training pipelines that power next‑generation autonomy models. You will operate at the intersection of AI research, infrastructure, operations, and product – ensuring seamless ingestion, processing, and deployment of massive datasets that accelerate end‑to‑end model development.
What You’ll Do
-
Program Leadership: Own end‑to‑end delivery of the AI Training Program, driving measurable improvements in training throughput, dataset readiness, and model velocity. Set clear OKRs, milestones, and execution plans across multiple teams.
-
Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with AI/ML, infrastructure, validation, and product teams to define requirements, prioritize roadmap tradeoffs, and ensure execution against critical development timelines.
-
Technical Roadmapping: Translate complex systems challenges—distributed training, data pipelines, compute scaling—into actionable plans with clear ownership, dependencies, and success metrics.
-
Scalability & Performance: Drive the design and evolution of highly scalable, reliable training pipelines capable of supporting rapidly growing datasets and compute demands.
-
Risk & Dependency Management: Proactively identify risks and cross-team dependencies, implement mitigation strategies, and maintain program stability in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment.
-
Operational Excellence: Establish repeatable processes, tooling, and governance to improve execution efficiency and program predictability.
-
Metrics & Visibility: Define and track KPIs (training cycle time, system utilization, model throughput); deliver clear, executive-ready insights to guide prioritization and decision-making.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
10+ years of technical program management experience leading large, complex, cross-functional initiatives.
-
5+ years working with AI/ML systems, model training pipelines, robotics, autonomous systems, or large-scale distributed compute environments
-
BS or MS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
-
Strong understanding of both hardware and software systems, with experience partnering closely with engineering teams
-
Experience delivering large-scale AI/ML infrastructure or training programs involving data pipelines, compute, and tooling
-
Proven ability to manage ambiguity and drive alignment across engineering, product, and operations stakeholders
-
Strong analytical mindset with experience using data to identify bottlenecks and drive system-level improvements
-
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels
-
Deep familiarity with Agile delivery, program tracking tools (e.g., JIRA), and data/reporting frameworks
What will give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications)
-
Experience scaling AI/ML training platforms for autonomous systems, robotics, or large-scale perception workloads
-
Strong familiarity with distributed training frameworks and data pipeline ecosystems (e.g., PyTorch, Spark, Airflow)
-
Experience with cloud or high-performance compute environments, including GPU/accelerator-based training infrastructure
-
Proven ability to influence technical strategy and drive alignment across senior engineering and product stakeholders
