Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Grand Rapids, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role
The Business Manager is responsible for leading day‑to‑day operations for an assigned crew/area, ensuring safety, quality, delivery, and cost targets are met. This role trains and coaches team members, supports problem solving and continuous improvement, and partners closely with Team Leaders, Group Leaders, and support functions to maintain standardized, stable operations.
What You’ll Do
- Lead daily operations for the assigned crew/area, including shift readiness and job station setup (materials, racks, carts, equipment, Andon, etc.).
- Work with Team Leaders to line balance work and ensure standard work (JES/SOS/TIS/STS) is followed and updated.
- Train, coach, and support team members and Team Leaders on new job elements, product and technology changes, and GMS principles (problem solving, standardization, CI).
- Lead or participate in problem‑solving activities, PFMEAs, continuous improvement workshops, 5S activities, WPO/BPD reviews, and other GMS workshops.
- Analytical skills to resolve and manage conflict in a timely manner
- Support launch build events and new program changes, representing the “voice of the floor” in build events and meetings.
- Help develop and maintain shop‑floor documentation (operations certification boards, build books, buy‑off sheets, training/flex charts, etc.).
- Support training activities such as New Hire Orientation, Team Leader training, and simulated work environments across shifts as needed.
- Monitor safety, quality, throughput and absenteeism; escalate issues and implement countermeasures per plant processes.
- Backfill team members or support other core/crew teams when required to maintain operations.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 5 yrs of leadership experience in a manufacturing/operations environment with working knowledge of processes in the assigned department.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, train, and coach others; strong communication, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Strong communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Working knowledge of GMS concepts (standardization, CI, problem solving, waste reduction) and ability to apply them on the floor.
- Basic PC skills including Outlook and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Ability to work flexible schedules and across shifts to support launch, training, and operational needs.

- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience with engaging with unions or UAW
