This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren GM Global Technical Center, Austin Technical Center, or Mountain View Technical Center three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business if more than 3 days].
The Role
A senior developer is needed to design and deliver Databricks-based executive reporting and a high-quality end-user experience for data access and consumption across GM’s key strategic initiatives. This role will enable scalable, reliable, and intuitive reporting for platforms such as Glean, Moveworks, ServiceNow, and Core IT data, ensuring leaders have timely, trusted insights to support decision-making. Investing in this capability will accelerate adoption, improve data usability, and strengthen GM’s ability to operationalize enterprise data for strategic outcomes.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and maintain executive-level dashboards and reports using Databricks SQL and dashboarding/visualization capabilities, focused on clear storytelling, performance, and ease of use.
- Collaborate with data engineers to define and validate optimized data models that:
- Improve report query performance and scalability
- Enable an exceptional user experience
- Are structured to maximize AI capabilities (e.g., natural language queries, semantic search, narrative insights).
- Partner with IT and HR stakeholders to translate business questions into well-defined metrics, KPIs, and visualizations that support decision making for executive audiences.
- Work across the end-to-end analytics lifecycle, from source understanding and profiling, through ETL requirements and semantic modeling, to report development and user acceptance.
- Apply effective, intuitive, and clean, executive-ready design principles to highlight what matters most for executives, reducing noise while preserving depth where needed.
- Implement and support data quality checks, validation routines, and documentation to ensure trust in metrics and insights.
- Configure and manage role-based access and data security in dashboards and semantic models in alignment with GM policies.
- Leverage approved AI and advanced analytics capabilities to enhance dashboards (e.g., smart narratives, anomaly detection, natural language explanations).
- Continuously monitor and tune report and query performance, recommending data model or design changes as necessary.
- Contribute to team standards, reusable templates, and best practices for data visualization, datamodeling, and executive reporting.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a related field; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience as an analytics/report developer, BI developer, or data visualization engineer building production dashboards and reports.
- Hands-on experience with Databricks for analytics and reporting, including:
- Strong SQL skills in Databricks
- Experience building and managing Databricks dashboards and visualizations.
- Proven experience partnering with data engineers to design and implement optimized data models (e.g., dimensional models, curated data sets) for BI and AI use cases.
- Strong knowledge of data warehousing and ETL/ELT concepts, including how upstream design impacts downstream report performance and usability.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver executive-ready dashboards with:
- Minimalistic, intuitive layouts
- Consistent visual standards
- High attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Experience working with IT and/or HR data (e.g., ITSM processes, service performance, workforce metrics, organizational structures, HR operations) or similar operational domains.
- Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to frame complex data in clear narratives for senior and executive stakeholders.
- Strong collaboration skills and a track record of working effectively in cross-functional teams (data engineers, architects, product owners, and business partners).
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with Power BI, including:
- Data modeling and semantic models
- DAX measures and calculations
- Row-level security and performance tuning.
- Experience with ServiceNow Reporting and Performance Analytics, including:
- Building reports and dashboards on ITSM, CMDB, and/or HRSD data
- Understanding of ServiceNow data structures and best practices for extracting and modeling data for analytics.
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms and data engineering patterns, particularly in Databricks Lakehouse environments.
- Experience designing analytics products that incorporate AI/ML outputs (e.g., propensity scores, risk flags, clustering results) into dashboards and decision flows.
- Experience supporting executive and senior leadership stakeholders, including preparing materials for business reviews, operating reviews, or dashboards used in recurring leadership forums.
- Background working in Agile or product-centric environments with iterative delivery and continuous feedback.

Compensation:
- The expected base compensation for this role is: $138,700 - $206,950. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
