Descripción
The Role
At General Motors, we are advancing the in-vehicle experience through software-defined vehicle technologies, intelligent mechatronic systems, and intuitive digital interfaces. The Senior Systems Engineer – Occupant Positioning Mechatronics will lead System Engineering definition for occupant positioning features and supporting mechatronic systems across the vehicle. This role owns end-to-end system requirements, interfaces, APIs, feature behavior, and performance targets for customer-facing functions.
While the primary focus is occupant positioning and mechatronic systems, this role also works closely with infotainment software, UX/HMI, and seating engineering teams to define how features are represented, controlled, and validated through in-vehicle displays. The successful candidate will partner across systems, software, mechatronics, infotainment, validation, safety, diagnostics, and vehicle integration teams to deliver robust, scalable, and production-ready solutions.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):
- Own end-to-end system requirements for occupant positioning and related mechatronic features across the vehicle.
- Define and maintain system, feature, and interface specifications for occupant positioning functions, including seat positioning, memory features, user-adjustable comfort and wellness functions, and other customer-facing vehicle behaviors.
- Develop functional requirements, behavioral requirements, API requirements and specifications, performance targets, use cases, state behaviors, and acceptance criteria for software-defined vehicle architectures.
- Define display-related feature behavior, user interactions, and system responses for occupant positioning functions accessed through infotainment and HMI interfaces, and support API specification and design activities across embedded applications, infotainment software, middleware, vehicle services, and compute-oriented systems.
- Define interactions between software applications, controllers, sensors, actuators, vehicle services, ECUs, and display interfaces, and lead feature decomposition and requirements allocation across software, hardware, mechatronic subsystems, compute platform, and vehicle system boundaries.
- Create and maintain SysML/UML models, interface definitions, and requirements documentation to support architecture clarity, MBSE practices, and traceability, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to align system behavior and feature expectations across vehicle programs.
- Support architecture reviews, issue investigation, triage, root cause analysis, and defect resolution throughout development and testing.
- Partner with validation teams to define test strategies, test cases, continuous testing approaches, and feature acceptance criteria, including validation of display-driven feature interactions.
- Support program milestones, readiness reviews, vehicle integration, testing, and launch activities to ensure successful production readiness.
- Support continuous improvement activities that enhance system and feature robustness, functional performance, and customer experience quality.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of automotive Systems Engineering experience.
- Experience with mechatronic systems, body electronics, occupant systems, seating systems, infotainment-integrated features, or related vehicle feature domains.
- Strong experience writing system requirements, interface specifications, API specifications, use cases, and acceptance criteria.
- Strong knowledge of systems architecture, software and hardware integration, embedded software development, and testing methodologies.
- Understanding of vehicle communication architectures, including CAN, CAN FD, Automotive Ethernet, diagnostics, and ECU interaction models.
- Experience working cross-functionally with software, hardware, integration, validation, infotainment, UX/HMI, and platform teams in Agile or SAFe development environments.
- Working knowledge of software programming concepts and the ability to read, analyze, and support debugging of software implementations in embedded or infotainment-connected environments.
- Experience defining customer-facing system behavior for display-based or HMI-driven vehicle functions.
- Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS/DNG, Jira, or similar tools.
- Experience with SysML, UML, Rhapsody, or similar system modeling tools.
- Understanding of software-defined vehicle architectures, feature decomposition, system traceability, and service-oriented integration concepts.
- Familiarity with CI/CD automation and continuous testing strategies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and technical collaboration skills.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master’s degree (or higher). in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with occupant positioning systems, seating controls, memory seat functions, or related mechatronic vehicle features.
- Experience working with infotainment software teams, UX/HMI designers, seating engineering teams, or embedded vehicle feature integration.
- Experience with body controls, sensing systems, actuator control, or customer-facing feature integration.
- Knowledge of AUTOSAR, service-oriented architectures, and software interface frameworks.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering practices, including SysML, functional modeling, and behavioral diagrams.
- Familiarity with Behavior-Driven Development concepts.
- Understanding of cybersecurity, diagnostics, and functional safety concepts in automotive systems.
