The Role

The Facilities Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of facility electrical systems in a manufacturing environment. This role provides electrical engineering support for CCA aftersales facilities, plant infrastructure, utilities, facility systems, and related capital projects. The position works closely with operations, maintenance, contractors, utility providers, and cross-functional teams to maintain compliance, minimize disruption, and improve facility performance across multiple Michigan locations and sites throughout the US and Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategy for safe, reliable, and efficient operation of medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems across CCA aftersales facilities
  • Partner with internal and external utility providers, site teams, and leadership to plan for outages, mitigate operational risk, and maintain business continuity
  • Maintain and improve electrical system documentation, including one-line drawings, switching diagrams, arc flash studies, and short circuit studies, to support sound engineering decisions and compliance
  • Develop technical direction for preventive maintenance, repairs, testing, upgrades, and lifecycle planning for substations, generators, automatic transfer switches, UPS systems, and related facility electrical assets
  • Support facility controls and infrastructure systems including ventilation, chilled water, overhead lighting, monitoring systems, and other critical utilities
  • Provide strategic electrical engineering input during the early planning stages of facility, asset, technology, and innovation projects to ensure adequate utility quality, capacity, resiliency, and system compatibility
  • Use data, engineering analysis, and site insight to influence priorities, justify investments, and drive decisions with cross-functional stakeholders and leadership
  • Develop project scope, cost estimates, schedules, business cases, and technical requirements for facility-related electrical projects
  • Lead contractors, procurement activities, purchase requests, and project execution to ensure facilities-driven projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget
  • Support compliance with GM safety requirements, electrical safe work practices, environmental expectations, and applicable regulatory standards, champion applciable GM safety standards for the portfolio.
  • Coordinate implementation with site teams to avoid unplanned production or operational disruptions
  • Maintain facility electrical asset information and support systems documentation updates across the portfolio

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent education and experience
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and project coordination skills
  • Project & budget management, contractor management, and procurement processes for multi-site facilities projects
  • 5+ years of experience supporting industrial electrical power distribution systems rated 13.8 kV and below, including substations, motor control centers, busway, power panels, control panels, and drives
  • Experience reading and interpreting electrical one-line drawings, switching diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Experience managing electrical engineering or facilities-related projects from planning through execution
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Code, NFPA, OSHA, MIOSHA, and electrical safety standards
  • Ability to work effectively and autonomously with contractors, plant teams, utility providers, and plant leadership with minimal direction
  • Ability to use data and technical analysis to influence decisions and gain alignment across stakeholders

Technical Skills

  • In depth understanding of: Medium- and low-voltage electrical distribution systems
  • Primary substations and switchgear support
  • Arc flash analysis and short circuit studies
  • Backup generators, automatic transfer switches, and UPS systems
  • Facility utility systems and infrastructure support
  • Electrical controls systems for facility operations

What Will Give You a Competitive Advantage

  • Fluent use of AutoCAD and electrical drawing management and interpretation
  • Experience with asset and project systems such as MAXIMO, SAP, PDPM, and NPP
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell PLCs, Siemens S7, VFDs, and industrial communication networks including DeviceNet and Ethernet
  • Demonstrated knowledge applying electrical safe work practices and compliance requirements in an industrial or manufacturing environment
  • PE, CEM or Electrical Safety Certification will be an advantage.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid role supporting CCA aftersales facilities and broader plant and facility operations. The position requires frequent travel, including 40 - 50% travel across Michigan locations and regular sites visits throughout the US and Canada, along with coordination across multiple departments, internal stakeholders, and external service providers.
