The Role
The Wentzville Manufacturing Engineering team is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to support a variety of manufacturing projects and programs. In this role, you will provide technical expertise to ensure the successful planning, execution, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes and equipment.
You will be responsible for troubleshooting equipment and process issues, developing and implementing innovative manufacturing solutions, and establishing standards and operational plans that support business objectives. This position requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to achieve production, quality, safety, and performance targets. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem solver who promotes GM's values, drives continuous improvement, and makes customer-focused decisions that enhance operational excellence.
What You'll Do

Demonstrate and champion safe work practices, ensuring safety remains the highest priority.

Operate in accordance with local and national labor agreements.

Support the implementation of divisional and corporate policies and initiatives.

Develop a strong understanding of and drive adherence to Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles.

Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to address equipment and process failures.

Provide technical leadership and expertise for complex manufacturing operations, equipment, and projects.

Foster and support a proactive safety culture throughout the organization.

Lead and support major manufacturing projects, including occasional weekend work as required.

Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities to enhance safety, quality, cost, and productivity.

Review and evaluate proposals for current and future manufacturing processes, including capital funding requests (ARs, NPPs, and MBCs).

Develop long-term plans to improve manufacturing processes, equipment reliability, and operational performance.

Collaborate with plant personnel, corporate partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders outside the immediate work group.

Manage and oversee third-party contractors and vendors as needed to ensure successful project execution.

Support launch, installation, and commissioning activities for new equipment and manufacturing processes.

Utilize data analysis and problem-solving tools to drive operational improvements and reduce downtime.

Partner with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to resolve issues and achieve business objectives.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing experience.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.

Ability to read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings and blueprints.

Experience managing contractors through equipment installation, debugging, validation, and production release activities.

Working knowledge of manufacturing tools, equipment, materials, methods, and industry-standard practices.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve complex and challenging issues.

Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multiple functions and levels of the organization.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Proven organizational and project management capabilities.

Ability to develop, analyze, interpret, and communicate performance metrics.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.

Ability to support multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.
-
Experience with additive manufacturing and 3D printing technologies.
-
Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or similar CAD/drafting software.
-
Knowledge of industrial robotics, automation systems, and conveyor systems.
-
Experience utilizing Throughput Improvement Process (TIP) and Practical Problem Solving (PPS) methodologies.
-
Experience improving equipment reliability, maintainability, availability, and manufacturing throughput.
-
Experience with Maximo or other computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
-
Experience with predictive maintenance technologies and condition-monitoring systems.
-
Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles.

Experience supporting the launch, installation, and commissioning of new manufacturing equipment and processes.

Familiarity with root cause analysis methodologies such as 5 Why, Fishbone, or Red X.

Experience managing capital projects and manufacturing process improvements.
