The Role

As a Facilities Electrical Engineer at Wentzville Assembly, you will be part of GM’s Global Facilities organization, partnering globally to deliver expert facility solutions and unleashing the capacity of people, machines, buildings, and workspaces.

You will support workplace transformation across the Wentzville Assembly complex, working with an industry‑leading team that designs, builds, operates, and maintains safe, compliant, and cost‑effective facilities and building electrical assets.

You will help engineer and sustain robust industrial electrical systems that support vehicle assembly operations, utilities, and site infrastructure, utilizing advanced technology to drive reliability, energy efficiency, and social and ecological sustainability. What You’ll Do

  • Serve as the single point of contact and owner for facilities needs in your assigned area, ensuring the proper physical operation of manufacturing facilities, including areas where contract services are provided.

  • Own assigned portions of the plant’s building and utility electrical systems (e.g., medium‑ and low‑voltage distribution, substations, MCCs, lighting, UPS/generators, building power and controls) to deliver safe, reliable operation that supports production and maintenance needs.

  • Provide technical direction to and oversight of resident business partners and outside contractors, ensuring safe work practices are followed and work is completed to GM standards.

  • Apply rigorous problem‑solving to electrical and facilities issues impacting safety, quality, throughput, or cost.

    • Plan and execute capital and expense projects involving building and facilities electrical systems, developing project scopes, estimates, and justifications.

    • Bid and establish equipment and installation contracts; procure construction management resources.

  • Ensure compliance with GM standards, codes, and regulatory requirements: Lead and support preventive and predictive maintenance and equipment uptime improvement:

  • Champion innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement:

  • Provide day‑to‑day technical support to skilled trades, contractors, and other engineers:

  • Support plant safety initiatives and systems:

  • Participate in and sometimes lead cross‑functional teams, meetings, and reviews:

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent engineering degree with significant electrical coursework/experience).

  • Demonstrated technical aptitude for the design, maintenance, and operation of industrial or commercial building electrical systems (e.g., power distribution, protection, lighting, controls).

  • Experience in project planning, engineering, and execution (scope development, estimates, design coordination, installation, and launch).

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to break down complex issues and drive to root cause.

  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to work effectively with skilled trades, contractors, engineers, operations, and leadership.

  • Demonstrated commitment to electrical safety and safe work practices.

  • Willingness and ability to support a manufacturing operation, including occasional off‑shift, weekend, and shutdown support as required by the business.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge

  • Master’s degree, PE license, or relevant professional certifications in electrical engineering, power systems, or industrial facilities.

  • Experience with High voltage substations, medium‑voltage (e.g., 13.2 kV) and low‑voltage distribution systems in an industrial environment.

  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70/70E and related electrical codes and standards.

  • Experience with arc‑flash analysis, labeling, and mitigation.

  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar tools for electrical drawings.

  • Experience in automotive, heavy manufacturing, or large industrial facilities.

  • Familiarity with CMMS systems (e.g., SAP) and facilities management tools (e.g., CAFM/Archibus).

  • Experience leading cross‑functional projects and/or directing contractors in an operating plant.
