Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as on-site. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Advanced Technical Center in Shanghai, China full time.
The Role -
GM's Design Organization is seeking a Design Program Manager who will be responsible for multiple highly complex programs. The Design Program Manager will work to represent Design in Engineering and Program Team meetings ensuring that our vehicles have world class craftsmanship, quality, usability, and an engaged customer experience. The successful candidate is highly skilled at program management, creative problem solving, has passion for working cross functionally and attention to deliver extraordinary products that meet General Motors’ purpose to pioneer the innovations that move and connect people to what matters.

What You’ll Do -
- Manage cross-functional execution of Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP) deliverables with goal of 100% on-time performance with quality
- Represent the voice of Design cross-functionally and the neutral voice of the program internally
- Partner with Program and Studio Managers (PSM), Design Directors, Sculpting Managers, and Studio Engineering Managers to manage programs
- Voice of the customer relative to communicating and enforcing agreed upon studio deliverables
- Disciplined approach to managing approved Program Plan of Record – content, architecture, targets, etc.
- Disciplined approach to managing approved Program Timing for milestones, deliverables, and tasks – making program status highly visible, holding the program team accountable, anticipating potential program risks/issues, and escalating late delivery appropriately
- Represent Design Center at Program Execution Team meetings for all studio activities – cost, content, quality, and program timing negotiations
- Single point of contact for program issues
- Identify, resolve and escalate program execution issues to leadership in a timely manner
- Actively manage change control in the studio for assigned programs
- Schedule and conduct major milestone reviews for assigned programs
- Develop Operating Plans in support of program timing, run the program operation meeting (OPs) in studio for internal cross-function alignment
- Run the program operation meeting (POPs) with external functions, such as PEM, VSE, VAM, DRE etc., to resolve the hot issue, address the disconnects
- Work closely with Design sculpting team for asset development and ensure accurate forecasting of property requests
- Facilitate the leadership reviews, such as studio design review, GDR, DRC review
- Manage a high-level of ambiguity by creating deliverables and milestones for non-templated work
- Support the identification and development of opportunities to enhance existing processes and tools to drive efficiencies
- Other ad hoc requests from leadership, such as event coordination etc.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Required: Bachelor degree or equivalent skill, experience or training
- 10 plus years of production development experience, 5 plus years of GVDP experience with ability to coach team members on milestones and interdependencies, design studio experience is preferred
- Ability to be predictive and proactive in an ever evolving, high-tempo work environment that is dependent on collaboration, decisiveness, and a high degree of innovative thinking
- Ability to act with a sense of urgency and remain calm under pressure
- Ability to develop creative and innovative solutions to complex problems where effects of decisions are critical and have strong influence on future state products
- Demonstratable look-ahead skills to anticipate studio needs
- High level of facilitation skills to drive meetings to accomplish required objectives
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Advance degree in Engineering, Business, Finance or related area
- 5 plus years of experience in program management
