At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

In this Quality Engineering Lead role, you will lead a team of Quality Engineers supporting both pre-production and ultra-low volume production activities. This role is accountable for driving robust quality systems, enabling flawless launches, and ensuring that GAIC vehicles and powertrains meet or exceed GM’s quality, safety, and customer experience targets.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead and develop the QE team
    • Provide regular coaching, feedback, and guidance to team members and help prioritize workload.
    • Establish team and individual goals (including CAP goals) and conduct performance evaluations.
    • Foster a culture of problem solving, continuous improvement, and collaboration.
  • Act as a key cross-functional liaison
    • Serve as the primary quality interface between the Artisan Innovation Center and engineering, manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, and supplier quality.
    • Work with Launch Teams on new vehicle builds to ensure quality is built in from concept through execution.
    • Support IRT Co-Chairs as necessary.
  • Drive issue resolution and continuous improvement
    • Manage multiple projects with broad scope and high complexity, balancing technical solutions with business imperatives.
    • Lead resolution of emerging issues, including containment, root cause identification, and robust long-term corrective actions.
    • Utilize structured problem-solving tools (e.g., Seven Diamonds Process, Red X, DFSS, and other applicable methodologies).
    • Facilitate Quality Walls for pre-production builds.
    • Share Lessons Learned with Engineering to prevent repeat design or build issues.
  • Ensure product and process quality
    • Work cross-functionally to eliminate supplier quality and engineering issues impacting Direct Run Losses, Direct Run Rate, IPPH and GCA.
    • Partner with production to prevent defect occurrence and recommend process or design changes.
    • Review nonconforming parts and sub-assemblies for appropriate disposition and ensure thorough root cause and corrective action follow-up.
    • Support quality evaluation of new vehicles with engineering and production.
    • Support engineering trials and demos.
  • Manage supplier and system performance
    • Work with suppliers to address SPPS issues and ensure robust, sustainable countermeasures.
    • Issue and drive PRTS to closure to support timely engineering changes and improvements.
    • Ensure effective use of quality systems, metrics, and reporting tools (e.g., GSIP, ECM, Flexnet, GQTS).
  • Communicate and influence
    • Evaluate employee suggestions and champion high-impact ideas.
    • Prepare and deliver clear technical reports and presentations to leadership.
    • Represent AIC Quality in cross-functional forums, reviews, and leadership updates.
