Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac MI five days per week. This role is scheduled for second shift working Monday through Friday from 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM.

The Role
The Engine Development Dynamometer Technician – 2nd Shift supports the engineering community in developing engine hardware and calibrations for next‑generation General Motors vehicles. This role plays a critical part in generating data that informs decisions affecting vehicle quality, durability, and performance experienced by our customers.

Reporting to the Group Leader, you will receive daily work assignments and collaborate closely with test engineers, calibrators, and suppliers to support testing activities within the Engine Dyno Test Cells. Responsibilities include mechanical setup and maintenance of test articles, execution of test plans, and use of the Global Manufacturing System (GMS) to achieve safety, quality, and performance metrics. The role balances standardized work processes with complex, one‑off scenarios that require strong analytical thinking, troubleshooting skills, and innovation.

What You’ll Do

  • Champion safety for themselves and others in all aspects of the work.
  • Conduct a wide variety of procedural and non-procedural gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer testing.
  • Collect, review, and validate testing data for accuracy and quality.
  • Interface with product, and testing engineers on updates to new testing procedures, equipment, and methods.
  • Work closely with Lab Engineering & Instrumentation & Equipment teams to provide information and guidance relative to test cell status and performance.
  • Applying problem solving techniques to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure equipment calibrations are up to date and do not put data integrity at risk.

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

  • 2-year associate degree in mechanical/engineering field, or 5+ years of equivalent technician experience in related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to install and remove engines on a dynamometer.
  • Hands-on experience connecting test instrumentation and diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and data issues.
  • Experience in engine component installation and replacement.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Intimate understanding of Gasoline and/or Diesel internal combustion engines.
  • Mechanical and fabrication skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience with PUMA, INCA, and Indicom test bed software.
  • Aptitude in Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Ability to work second shift: 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM
  • Ability to work off shifts as needed.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Requirements)

  • 10+ years of hands-on experience in Engine Development and/or Engine Validation Testing
  • 5+ years of experience in PUMA, INCA, & Indicom Test Bed Systems.
  • 5+ years of Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Engineering, Automotive, Leadership, or related field.
