The Role:

This role entails maintains, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs LAN network systems and hardware, computer systems, hardware and computer peripherals. Additionally, you will document, maintain, upgrade and/or replaces hardware and software systems. You will need to
be familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. You will plan, direct and coordinate activities pertaining to operations affecting information technology in GM's business process areas.

What You’ll Do:
The GMIT Manufacturing OPS Specialist / LAN position has on-site support responsibility for all IT related functions by performing activities pertaining to information technology and business unit objectives in a GM Manufacturing Facility. More specifically, this role will perform tasks requiring on-site support for basic and intermediate level requests for applications, IT devices, maintain & configure network devices and infrastructure support per the responsibilities listed. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. The Operations Specialist / LAN Operations Specialist role requires several critical activities using the following skills/experience:

  • Strong level of analytical ability
  • Exercise a high level of independent judgment
  • Strong trouble shooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Good interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and business partners to resolve issues
  • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple and significantly complex projects and assignments
  • Demonstrated ability in leading projects by coordinating the work of others
  • Proven ability to work with cross functional team (plant maintenance, engineering and vendor teams)
  • Support GM managed Cisco LAN and WAN network infrastructure Hardware
  • Support Wireless network and end device configuration / replacement
  • Support Voip and analog phone devices
  • Perform and Support network Change Controls as required
  • Perform CISCO switch, AP and WhereNet hardware configuration / replacement
  • Configure network switch ports for IT devices
  • Experienced with Layer 1-4 Switching and Routing troubleshooting skills

Qualifications:

  • 3+ year’s experience of IT experience with Cisco LAN and WAN network
  • 3+ year’s experience supporting end-user devices (PC’s, printers, scanners, mobile phones, and tablets) A PLUS
  • Minimum Associates degree required
  • Knowledge of Client Hardware use, repairs, replacement
  • Knowledge of Client Operating Systems (Windows 7, Windows 10)
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products (SharePoint, Edge, Skype, Yammer, Teams, OneDrive, OneNote)
  • Basic understanding of Active Directory management
  • Familiarity with tools for remote PC management (VNC, VPN, RDP, Bomgar, Skype)
  • Ability to climb a ladder to access network platforms as needed
  • Knowledge of ITIL concepts - Incident Management, Change Management, IT Asset Management, Release Management, Service Request Management, Service Desk
  • Knowledge of Server environment a plus
  • Basic understanding of Server Virtualization concepts (VMWare) a plus
  • Understanding of IT Monitoring tools (Site Scope or HP-OM) a plus
