Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

System engineering is a multidisciplinary organization that is chartered with the goal of pulling together the highly complex and interconnected system that is the modern-day automobile. System engineering transcends the physical nature of any specific design, cutting across traditional engineering disciplines to allow for a customer-focused execution of vehicle level features.

This opening is for a System Engineer for the Propulsion domain. This position will support the requirements development specifically for the engine and transmission domains of the Energy Conversion for Vehicle Motion (ECVM) system within the Propel Feature.  The ECVM system is complex and manages multiple interfaces across its boundaries. You will help to develop requirements and architectures that balance controls, software and hardware. In this role you will work directly with the Feature Owner for Propel Vehicle and the various System Owners and with a team of highly technical and competent Systems Engineers in the Propel space to deliver a technical specification based upon performance and safety. As we expand this team we will be moving beyond the T1 PHEV P0/P2 to work on all propulsion programs including EV, ICE and other hybrid programs.

This position will interface with numerous activities including System Safety, Propulsion Software and Calibration, Propulsion Hardware, ATW, program teams

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and release System Technical Specification (STS)

  • Ensure system requirements meet Feature and Safety requirements

  • Participate in feature workgroups to develop and improve customer focused vehicle level features

  • Create System DFMEA

  • Participate in Fault Tree Analysis

  • Collaborate on V&V plan (Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls)

  • Lead the integration and issue resolution of the system through the development cycle.

  • Work with subsystem and component teams to optimize system design

  • Set availability targets, allocate to the subsystems and components, determine feature sensitivity to variation and failure modes, and determine mitigation plans to improve performance to targets.

  • Support in the scoping of Advanced Technology Work (ATW) projects

  • Stay abreast of new technology, new processes and methods to predict and improve availability

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Candidate must have one of the following engineering degrees: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering or Computer Science Engineering
