The Role:

The process engineer is to able to work with hourly union environment with occasional guidance from supervision and peers. Skilled in equipment alternatives, sequence, and flow of operations for the effective utilization of personnel and machines as necessary to produce high quality parts. Work is performed in a manufacturing plant activity where teamwork is key.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Provide daily support to production operations with a strong focus on personnel and equipment safety, process quality, and uptime, particularly within press operations, fastening, and/or testing systems

  • Attend regular production meetings and represent engineering on safety, quality, throughput, and scrap reduction topics

  • Own specific manufacturing and/or quality issues, driving root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and closure

  • Support the production team by collecting, analyzing, and sharing data to help resolve issues beyond those formally assigned to engineering

  • Provide technical direction and information to skilled trades personnel, ensuring proper execution of repairs, adjustments, and improvements

  • Support manufacturing activities by troubleshooting and diagnosing process and equipment problems to eliminate scrap, rework, and unplanned downtime

  • Develop, maintain, and update process documentation, including Job Instructions, FMEA databases, machine and tooling drawings, and other standard work

  • Identify, prioritize, and execute continuous improvement projects that support departmental business objectives and improve safety, quality, cost, and reliability

  • Lead or support process development and launch activities for new or modified equipment, including installation, debug, runoff, validation, and handoff to operations to ensure robust, high-quality engine production

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 3+ years of process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a plant setting

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, another engineering discipline, a relevant technical field, or equivalent experience

  • Ability to work 2nd shift

  • Ability to work overtime as needed

  • Demonstrated analytical ability, with strong communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with team members and cross-functional partners to solve problems and resolve issues

  • Experience with product/part quality, including part identification, troubleshooting, and basic root cause analysis

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and Power BI

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple, complex projects with a high level of autonomy and accountability for results

  • Knowledge of, and ability to implement, lean manufacturing principles

  • Demonstrated initiative, including taking action beyond assigned work to improve outcomes and/or support others

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a plant setting

  • Experience working in a union/represented environment

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to implement, Global Manufacturing System (GMS) principles

  • Proven project management skills, including the ability to effectively teach and mentor others

  • Ability to work independently while managing complex production and quality requests
