The Role

The LMS and Kitting Industrial Engineer will work directly with production, material, and cross-functional leadership to implement lean material systems that support safe, efficient, and cost-effective assembly operations. This role is responsible for optimizing material flow, material presentation, kitting, sequencing, storage, internal dunnage, and delivery methods to ensure the right part is delivered in the right quantity to the right place at the right time. Success in this role requires strong technical problem solving, the ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, and a passion for continuous improvement.

What You Will Do (Responsibilities)

  • Develop and implement lean material system strategies that improve material flow, reduce waste, and support overall plant safety, quality, and productivity objectives.
  • Define and optimize part presentation methods including direct-to-line, kitting, minomi, sequencing, bulk, and repack strategies based on plant and operational requirements.
  • Support Plan for Every Part (PFEP) development and lead station-by-station reviews to determine delivery methods, material handling requirements, and presentation devices for each operation.
  • Create and maintain accurate material flow data, part routings, and master part tracking documentation for future programs and steady-state operations.
  • Develop layouts and space utilization plans for lineside presentation, storage areas, kitting cells, repack areas, routes, and support equipment using CAD or similar visualization tools.
  • Lead or support launch execution activities for new programs, engineering changes, and material strategy implementation at the plant.
  • Drive labor optimization and productivity improvements through work measurement, indirect labor analysis, route planning, and standardized lean material handling practices.
  • Partner with production, supply chain, containerization, launch, and engineering teams to develop practical and scalable material delivery solutions.
  • Support continuous improvement activities by analyzing existing operations, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing countermeasures that improve throughput, cost, ergonomics, and operator efficiency.
  • Ensure material systems and workstation support designs align with safety, ergonomic, quality, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Coach and support plant teams in the adoption of standardized LMS processes, lean principles, and best practices.
  • Work as one team across all levels of the organization to drive accountability, execution, and results.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ year of Industrial Engineering, Lean Material Strategies, supply chain, material operations, manufacturing, or continuous improvement experience.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or assembly environment with a strong background in lean systems and process improvement.
  • Knowledge of material flow, kitting, sequencing, part presentation, routing, storage, and internal material handling systems.
  • Experience supporting PFEP development, standardized work, and launch or change management activities.
  • Working knowledge of work measurement, predetermined time studies, or labor analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and independently.
  • Ability to work / rotate through all 3 shifts (1st, 2nd & 3rd).
  • Ability to work over-time, weekends, holidays, etc. as needed.
  • Self-motivated individual with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience with lean material systems in a high-volume assembly environment.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Teamcenter Visualization, FactoryCAD, or similar layout and design tools.
  • Knowledge of warehouse management systems, material automation, or plant material technologies.
  • Understanding of ergonomic analysis, operator support systems, and workstation presentation design.
  • Project management and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Project.
