Description
The Chevrolet Assistant Manager, Field Performance is a 7th level individual contributor role responsible for improving Chevrolet sales performance and customer outcomes through dealer performance program strategy, sales effectiveness initiatives, and practical application of AI-enabled process improvements. This role will report to the Chevrolet Sales Effectiveness and Customer Experience Manager.
This position applies deep professional knowledge, independent judgment, and broad cross-functional collaboration to identify opportunities, improve processes, and deliver measurable business results across Chevrolet Sales Operations, field teams, and dealer-facing workstreams. The role is intended to align with GM’s Level 7 expectations for a fully qualified, experienced professional who operates with minimal guidance, exercises discretion on significant matters, and has meaningful operational impact across the function.
The role sits within the Chevrolet Sales Effectiveness and Customer Experience organization, where adjacent Assistant Manager roles already exist across customer experience and sales effectiveness. The scope of this new role combines those priorities with AI strategy focused on practical efficiencies in sales processes and customer experience execution rather than enterprise-level product ownership or broader 8th level organizational leadership. Relocation benefits are available for candidates who qualify under company policy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support initiatives that improve Chevrolet sales performance through contests and recognition programs
- Partner with field teams and cross-functional stakeholders to strengthen sales effectiveness execution and elevate consistency across the dealer network
- Identify, evaluate, and implement AI-enabled opportunities that improve efficiency, reduce manual effort, and increase speed and accuracy in sales operations and customer experience workflows
- Partner with digital, analytics, operations, and business teams to test and scale practical AI use cases that support Chevrolet priorities
- Build business cases, define pilot success measures, and monitor outcomes to ensure AI initiatives deliver measurable value
- Help translate emerging AI capabilities into realistic, business-friendly applications for field and headquarters teams
- Translate business priorities into actionable workplans, implementation steps, and measurable deliverables
- Coordinate across sales operations, dealer performance, field teams, analytics, and digital partners to ensure initiatives are aligned and executed effectively
- Track initiative performance and recommend refinements to improve adoption, effectiveness, and customer impact
- Prepare executive-ready materials, updates, and recommendations for leadership reviews and routine business meetings
- Communicate clearly across functions and levels to build understanding, alignment, and momentum
- Help teams adopt new AI tools, processes, and ways of working by providing structure, clarity, and follow-through
What successful performance looks like:
- Recognized as a fully qualified, experienced professional with complete knowledge of own area and broad knowledge of related areas.
- Exercises independent discretion and judgment on significant matters based on professional knowledge.
- Breaks broad challenges into initiatives capable of implementation and proposes solutions that improve processes and services.
- Resolves diverse, non-standard problems using advanced analytical and problem-solving techniques.
- Owns delivery of solutions, drives cross-team efforts, and has significant operational impact across the function.
- Demonstrates strong accountability, collaboration, and influence while operating with minimal day-to-day guidance.
Required experience and capabilities
- Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of experience in the automotive industry in lieu of a degree.
- 4+ years in sales or sales operations.
- Significant experience in retail sales operations, dealer performance, data analytics, or business operations.
- Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional planning and execution across multiple stakeholders and operating groups.
- Demonstrated strategic thinking and ability to convert business context and data into actionable plans.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong communication, influence, and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively across functions and levels.
- Demonstrated ability to look forward into a future that incorporates AI into retail operations and strategies.
Preferred experience
- Experience in Chevrolet or GM retail operations, sales operations, or dealer performance.
- Experience working with digital retail platforms, systems integrations, or dealer-facing retail processes.
- Experience partnering with field teams, brand teams, and cross-functional stakeholders to execute business strategy.
GM behaviors expected in role
The successful candidate should consistently role model GM behaviors, including winning with integrity, committing to customers, innovating and embracing change, speaking fearlessly, moving with urgency, being inclusive, leading as one team, and owning the outcome.
Consistent with the Level 7 guide, the role is expected to receive minimal guidance, act as a resource for others, address diverse issues with innovative methods, and help drive cross-team efforts and solutions.
This scope is also consistent with how Chevrolet Sales Operations has been defining adjacent 7th level assistant manager roles: execution-oriented, cross-functional, independently led workstreams with significant business impact, but without the broader organization ownership, staffing accountability, and larger people-leader scope expected of 8th level roles.
GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role. Do not apply for this role if you will need GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future. This includes direct company sponsorship, entry of GM as the immigration employer of record on a government form, and any work authorization requiring a written submission or other immigration support from the company (e.g., H1-B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, J-1, etc.)
