The Role

As the Paint Production Business Manager , you will lead paint shop production and daily operations at Fairfax Assembly. You will be responsible for delivering safe, stable, and efficient manufacturing performance while developing people and maintaining strong cross-functional partnerships. This role works closely with production, maintenance, quality, material planning, engineering, and manufacturing leadership to meet operational, cost, quality, and delivery objectives. Your leadership will help ensure the paint shop consistently delivers vehicles that meet GM standards and customer expectations.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead daily paint shop production activities, including staffing, work assignments, escalation management, and production recovery.

  • Establish operating priorities and monitor performance against safety, quality, throughput, schedule attainment, labor, and cost targets

  • Develop and coach frontline leaders and team members to build accountability, technical capability, and a strong culture of continuous improvement.

  • Partner with maintenance, quality, manufacturing engineering, material planning, and logistics teams to resolve constraints and prevent recurring issues.

  • Ensure adherence to standardized work, operating procedures, environmental requirements, and GM manufacturing systems.

  • Use production data and root-cause problem solving to identify losses, implement countermeasures, and sustain measurable improvements.

  • Communicate shop-floor conditions, risks, and recovery plans to plant leadership and coordinate timely decisions across shifts.

Your Skills & Abilities

  • Five or more years of experience in manufacturing, production operations, or a related industrial environment.

  • Experience leading people in a manufacturing or other high-volume operational setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage daily production performance across safety, quality, delivery, cost, and people measures.

  • Experience using structured problem-solving methods, performance metrics, and data analysis to improve operations.

  • Ability to work onsite in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and support the operating schedule required by the business.

  • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and cross-functional communication skills.

  • Candidates must meet all required qualifications to be considered for this position.

  • Flexibility to work any shift, including weekends and overtime as required

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, business, operations, or a related field

  • Experience in automotive manufacturing, vehicle assembly, or paint shop operations.

  • Experience leading production across multiple shifts or in a 24/7 manufacturing operation.

  • Familiarity with paint shop processes, including pretreatment, electrocoat, primer, basecoat, clearcoat, or paint quality systems.

  • Experience with lean manufacturing, standard work, layered process audits, and continuous improvement systems.

  • Experience developing frontline leaders and leading engagement, quality, or operational excellence initiatives.

  • Proficiency with manufacturing execution systems, Microsoft Office, and data visualization or reporting tools.

  • Experience managing cross-functional improvement projects from problem definition through sustained results.
