Work Arrangement:

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Detroit/Hamtramck plant location

The Role

As a Quality Engineering Launch Lead at General Motors, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the successful launch of new vehicles by leading quality assurance activities and driving continuous improvement throughout the product lifecycle.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and execute Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities, including the development and implementation of robust quality control plans for new product launches.
  • Facilitate and contribute to Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA) to identify and mitigate potential risks in manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Engineering teams to translate design requirements into measurable quality targets and ensure manufacturability.
  • Utilize JIRA - PRTS (Problem Resolution and Tracking System) to effectively manage, track, and resolve quality-related issues during all phases of vehicle launch.
  • Oversee Supplier Quality Management initiatives, including supplier assessments, development, and ongoing performance monitoring to ensure component quality.
  • Apply advanced Technical Problem-Solving methodologies to analyze root causes of defects and implement permanent corrective actions.
  • Implement Variation Reduction strategies and tools to minimize process and product variability, enhancing overall quality and efficiency.
  • Possess a deep understanding of the Vehicle Manufacturing Process and identify critical control points to proactively prevent quality issues.
  • Mentor and guide cross-functional teams on quality best practices and continuous improvement principles.
    Prepare and present comprehensive quality reports and launch readiness assessments to senior management.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)​​

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Product Engineering principles and their application to quality assurance.
  • Proficiency in utilizing Problem Resolution and Tracking Systems (PRTS) for effective issue management.
  • Strong background in Supplier Quality Management, including supplier development and auditing.
  • Exceptional Technical Problem-Solving skills with a track record of successful root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
  • Experience in applying Variation Reduction techniques to improve product and process quality.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Vehicle Manufacturing Process and associated quality requirements.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams.
  • Ability to travel as required to support launch activities and supplier engagements.
