The GPSC Accountant is a key member of General Motors’ Global Purchasing & Supply Chain (GPSC) finance organization. In this role, you will own and oversee critical general ledger activities, ensure the integrity of financial results, and provide technical accounting insight to support complex sourcing and supply chain decisions. You will collaborate closely with finance, accounting, and cross-functional business partners to ensure accurate reporting, strong internal controls, and continuous improvement in our accounting processes.

What you’ll do

Own and perform core General Ledger activities to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to US GAAP and company policies.

Identify, interpret, and analyze accounting risks and issues, providing clear recommendations and escalation as needed.

Research and analyze accounting transactions and contracts; prepare well-supported technical accounting memos documenting conclusions.

Design, execute, and maintain internal controls and procedures to support SOX compliance and a strong control environment.

Partner with Finance and GPSC leadership to assess accounting implications of new initiatives, contracts, and transactions, providing analytical insight to support material business decisions.

Prepare accurate and timely quarterly SEC-related tasks, including schedules, analyses, and supporting documentation.

Support the Quarterly Accounting Review process by preparing materials, explaining key drivers, and addressing follow-up questions.

Prepare monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and proper documentation.

Support internal and external audit requests, providing clear, organized support and driving timely resolution of open items.

Evaluate current accounting practices and policies, recommending and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and control.

Build strong, cross-functional relationships with Finance, GPSC operations, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency in financial results.
Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

5+ years of relevant accounting or finance experience, preferably in a corporate, public accounting, or manufacturing environment.

Strong knowledge of US GAAP and core accounting principles.

Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including the ability to work with large data sets and build clear, insightful analyses.

Demonstrated ability to operate cross-functionally, building productive relationships with Finance, operations, and other partners.

Proven problem-solving and analytical skills, with experience addressing complex, ambiguous issues and forming well-reasoned conclusions.

Strong attention to detail, coupled with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain accounting concepts to non-accounting partners.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with SAP, Hyperion, or similar ERP/enterprise reporting systems.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or progress toward certification.

Experience supporting SOX compliance, internal controls, and/or SEC reporting activities.

Background in automotive, manufacturing, or supply chain environments.

Demonstrated experience driving process improvement or automation within accounting or finance functions.
Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the - Global HQ Warren MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
