Descrição
General Motors is seeking a Network Logistics Operation Manager to manage complex intercontinental logistics activity and protect the continuity of material flow to GM manufacturing operations. This role serves as an operational control point for critical shipments, coordinating across carriers, railroads, logistics service providers, customs partners, plants, purchasing, and internal supply-chain teams.
The successful candidate will combine strong logistics execution with data-driven problem solving. In addition to resolving daily shipment and container risks, this role will strengthen supply-chain resiliency, improve performance visibility, and identify opportunities to simplify or automate logistics processes.
What you’ll do
-
Monitor intercontinental ocean, rail, truck, and transload shipments, with emphasis on critical containers and material at risk of production impact.
-
Lead timely escalation and recovery actions for customs holds, rail delays, port or terminal constraints, missed appointments, carrier capacity issues, and other transportation disruptions.
-
Coordinate with logistics service providers, ocean carriers, railroads, drayage providers, customs brokers, plants, and GM functional partners to establish clear ownership and recovery plans.
-
Maintain actionable shipment visibility through hot lists, exception reporting, dashboards, and recurring operating reviews.
-
Translate logistics data into insights on dwell time, delivery reliability, days of supply, premium freight, accessorial cost, carrier performance, and recurring failure modes.
-
Support spot-buy, premium-freight, accessorial, and other exception decisions with sound business judgment, documented rationale, and appropriate approvals.
-
Identify root causes behind recurring delays and implement standard work, countermeasures, and control plans that prevent repeat issues.
-
Develop and maintain contingency plans for constrained lanes, critical suppliers, ports, rail networks, and carrier capacity.
-
Partner with analytics, technology, and process owners to improve data quality, integrate logistics information, and automate repetitive reporting or workflow activities.
-
Communicate concise, decision-ready updates to logistics leadership and cross-functional stakeholders, including risk, business impact, actions, owners, and timing.
-
Participate in escalation coverage and urgent recovery activities as required to support plant continuity.
Required qualifications
-
2 years of experience in logistics, transportation, manufacturing, supply chain operations, freight forwarding, or related
-
Demonstrated experience managing intermodal, ocean, rail, drayage, import, or international logistics operations.
-
Experience coordinating multiple internal and external stakeholders during time-sensitive operational disruptions.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret operational data and prioritize actions based on production and business risk.
-
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and experience using reporting or visualization tools such as Power BI.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively from frontline operations through leadership audiences.
-
Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
Preferred qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, business, engineering, or a related field
-
Experience in automotive, manufacturing, or other production-critical supply-chain environments.
-
Experience with customs clearance, container tracking, port operations, rail operations, or third-party logistics management.
-
Experience with GoogleSheets
-
Experience developing KPIs, exception-management processes, standard work, or continuous-improvement solutions.
-
Familiarity with logistics data integration, APIs, EDI, workflow automation, or related digital supply-chain capabilities.
-
Lean, Six Sigma, APICS/ASCM, or comparable process-improvement training or certification.
-
Experience influencing carrier and logistics-provider performance through structured reviews and corrective actions.
What success looks like
-
Critical shipments are identified early, actively managed, and recovered before they create avoidable production impact.
-
Logistics leaders and plant stakeholders have timely, accurate, decision-ready visibility to material and transportation risk.
-
Recurring exceptions are converted into measurable process improvements rather than repeatedly managed as one-time emergencies.
-
Premium freight, dwell, accessorial cost, and avoidable service failures are reduced through stronger planning, escalation, and carrier accountability.
-
Reporting and operational workflows become more consistent, scalable, and automated.
-
Cross-functional partners understand ownership, next steps, and timing during every major logistics escalation.
