Why GM Energy

At GM Energy, quality is foundational to scaling electrification responsibly. In this role, you will directly shape supplier readiness and product integrity for next‑generation energy solutions, working at the intersection of automotive rigor, energy innovation, and global manufacturing.

The Role

We are seeking a highly driven Product Validation Engineer to lead validation and verification activities for next-generation energy and charging hardware systems, including bi-directional EVSE, uni-directional EVSE, inverters, energy hubs, stationary storage, and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) / Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) solutions.

This role owns end-to-end validation strategy and execution across the product lifecycle, from early architecture definition through launch and field performance. You will ensure our products meet the highest standards for safety, reliability, durability, regulatory compliance, and customer experience.

You’ll work at the intersection of hardware, firmware, power electronics, grid integration, and customer use cases, partnering cross-functionally with engineering, quality, suppliers, and field teams to deliver robust, production-ready energy solutions at scale.

This role works closely with external suppliers to establish validation requirements for new products and product enhancements, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, reliability, and regulatory expectations. The engineer will track supplier progress, review validation evidence, and manage documentation within GM systems to support launch readiness.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Translate customer requirements, regulatory standards, and use cases into measurable validation criteria

  • Establish design validation, reliability, and stress test methodologies

  • Define and communicate validation requirements for new products and product changes

  • Develop and maintain ADVP&R in collaboration with suppliers

  • Track supplier validation progress, schedules, and deliverables

  • Review and approve supplier test reports, certifications, and compliance documentation

  • Ensure validation aligns with applicable standards, regulations, and internal requirements

  • Identify validation risks and escalate issues as needed

  • Support quality and launch readiness reviews with validation status and evidence

  • Store and maintain validation documentation in GM systems with clear traceability

  • Drive root cause analysis for validation and field issues

  • Partner with design, supplier, and manufacturing teams on corrective actions

  • Track defects through closure and verify effectiveness of fixes

  • Support continuous improvement and design robustness initiatives

  • Support prototype builds, pilot fleets, and pre-production readiness

  • Provide validation readiness input for launch gates and quality reviews

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or related field

  • 3+ years of experience in product validation, or test engineering

  • Strong root cause problem-solving skills

  • Experience working directly with external suppliers

  • Strong understanding of hardware validation and documentation

  • Ability to review technical test data and certification reports

  • Strong organization, tracking, and communication skills

  • Familiarity with DVP&R, DFMEA, and validation best practices

  • Knowledge of safety and compliance standards (UL, CSA, IEC)

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience in product validation, or test engineering

  • Experience with EVSE, inverters, energy storage, or residential energy systems
